This is especially good coming from Sturm because IMO he's quite the Aggy sympathizer. I seem to remember he had a kid who was a student at A&M a couple of years ago and he was all fired up about the "traditions" he was learning about as his child passed through the program.

Regarding Bert Auburn's missed FG... watching the play live on the telecast I thought the Horns' alignment was off-center. The formation looked oddly different to me and I thought at that moment maybe it was on purpose because of the ball placement near the right hash mark or possibly to adjust for the wind or some other reason. I heard an analyst on the radio reviewing the game and he said he thought from the press box that Auburn just made a bad pass at the ball like a golfer just making a faulty swing. I still think Auburn might have been put off by the holder not being straight behind the center and he compensated by pushing the kick off to the right. He's a very good and dependable kicker and I will bet it turns out to be a "one-off." Hook 'Em!

I'm retired after 35+ years at a couple of big companies. When you are young and right out of UT, all you need is a chance. And that chance is often hard to come by. I got a job at the big company right off the campus in 1978. I got a chance to perform in that company in 1979 when a person left and they needed someone quickly. I've watched CJ take advantage of his chance and he's getting better and more comfortable all the time. Kudos to Bobby for recognizing his talents and to Gerry and Rodney for their mentoring. Hook 'Em!

Good for X-Man! I was super happy for Worthy. Now I can return to disliking KC because of Tech boy QB and his weird wife and the Kelce bro TE and his alleged girlfriend what's-her-name the Pop singer. I wonder if the A&M fans would want to fire KC's former Punt Pass and Kick champ Head Coach because of his waistline?! Oh, well...

Let's review for this A&M "fan" ... Your administration fired the Head Coach they had chosen partly because "he had won a national championship" at another university and paid him millions to go away. Then the Athletic Director identified a coach he wanted and was flying him to Aggie Land to introduce him to Aggiedom... but word of the new coach leaked out and the AD urgently called the coach and told him "Nevermind." Then ( excuse my faulty memory) the AD got the axe because he forgot to ask "may I?" because he thought his job description included hiring authority. Finally all the A&M people consulted each other and hired a "consensus candidate" they could mostly agree on... and instructed the new Athletic Director to hire the guy who was the Head Coach candidate who hadn't offended anyone when he had been a coordinator at A&M a couple of years ago. And NOW you call him fat and want to pay him millions to leave... after ONE GAME. Uh, ok cool. Hook 'Em!

For a UT campus experience, the AT&T Conference Center is excellent. Expensive, but you can walk to the stadium and save on Uber that way. You are literally staying on the campus and you can walk over to the Drag for the post-game craziness and the Guadalupe location of Kerbey Lane Cafe for late night food or next morning brunch. I agree with the Driskill for the historical significance and turn of the last century ambiance. Plus a view of Sixth St idiocy. It helps to be on expense account. Speaking of expense account, the Four Seasons is where the recruits get to stay and it's on the lake. I agree with the Hyatt... still not cheap, but it has easy in and out for transportation and parking. There are some boutique -type small hotels that are very Austin -y but it's not really the football weekend experience. To do the golf and spa things there are places like Barton Creek Resort outside of town in the hills to the West. I've had good luck with the Marriott Courtyard places in Austin and the one at I35 and Parmer Ln is a good property. You can save some money and spend the savings on restaurants. Have fun! I was a season ticket holder for years and took the family to many games. My youngest graduated from UT a couple of years ago and said it was all the football weekends when she was a little kid that made her want to be a student at the University. Hook 'Em!

Way to go, Scottie! WAY back in the summer of 1973 I was a sophomore at UT and I took a "summer school" class (think it was styled as HIS 315) to get the requirement done. It was the first half of the two American History classes. Taught by Professor Norman Brown at the Art Building auditorium across the street to the north of Memorial Stadium. Learned a lot, especially about the American Revolution. Back then, final grades were posted outside of the classrooms where the lectures were held. The postings were on the wide "computer paper" and each student's name, Social Security number (yes!) and final grade appeared as printed by the old dot matrix machines. Students would huddle around the posting and find their name and learn their final grade. As I stood there waiting for space to clear so I could see how poorly I had done, I heard a kid say "Really? I didn't know HE was in the class...I never saw him." The name was Theodore Benjamin Crenshaw. Right then I said to the group, "Don't worry about that guy. He's not concerned about his grade in this class. He's gonna do better in the future than anyone else in this class!" I was right. It didn't matter that Ben Crenshaw spent that summer working on his golf game instead of studying for Prof Brown's history class. So Hook 'Em Ben and Scottie!

I haven't re-watched the game... maybe just too painful, but I have followed CFB since 1969 and I thought Penix's performance was as good/"hot" as I ever recall at the QB position. He simply didn't miss. BTW, I thought Quinn's first quarter play against Bama in Austin in 2022 was outstanding. Then he got planted into the artificial turf at DKR and injured. I still think that injury play has affected Quinn ever since. Hopefully this season he will have worked through it and the aftermath will be gone. I'd love to see him play that well again...

Thanks for the sneak peek, Blake! I'd like to see what Official Orange cleats would look like with the Home uniforms. I'm showing my age when I say I liked the seasons some of the basketball players have worn the burnt orange shoes. And way back in the day during the DKR years I liked the burnt orange socks... but nowadays the football pants are too short to feature the orange socks! Hook 'Em...

A Longhorn fan and friend of mine talked about this just yesterday. We remember some seasons when the Texas linemen looked a bit soft and overweight. Under Coach Sark and Coach Becton the Longhorns of today look like the championship Horns of years past... Hook 'Em!

Agree with Bobby. I got divorced after 21 years and found I had more time and mental energy to put into my work. I hope this is true for him and I wish her the best also. Unfortunately, sometimes it's just best for both. I noticed his belt buckle...is that "H" for Head Coach or Hermes? I suspect it's the latter!

Good advice from RedFive. I am retired, thus old! All of what RF advised plus: Consider parking downtown and taxi/Uber to the gates at Fair Park. DART gets crowded unless you go truly early. If you do park downtown, consider parking at one of the nicer hotels... maybe treat your guests/family to breakfast. The best restroom facilities at Fair Park are at the Fair Park Music Hall. It's just inside the park gate on the NW side of the fairgrounds. Fletcher's Corny Dogs are legendary. To access any food and drink you must first purchase "coupons." The coupon is the medium of exchange and you first stand in line to purchase coupons. Then you stand in line to give Fletcher's a fistful of coupons for the corny dog. I met Stonie Clark in the line the year after he stuffed Zero U RB on the goal line to preserve a Longhorns victory twenty -odd years ago. Stonie said he got started with a half-dozen... but he played DT! The seating is all good but cramped. Prepare to stand while the ball is in play and sit during media timeouts and halftime. If you haven't already gotten a line on tickets...if you are a Texas Ex member you can sometimes get tickets from Exes who are unable to attend...call now to get on their list. All the concert and sports ticket brokers are expensive. Only the true fans go to the game and the atmosphere is unique. Sometimes electric. I've been 35+ times for TX-OU, Cotton Bowl and SMU when they played home games there. My father took me to see the Cowboys there when I was just 6 years old and the Dallas Texans before they became the Kansas City Chiefs. Told you I was old! I've been to a Super Bowl and a World Series. Nothing beats Texas and OU at the State Fair of Texas! Have fun and Hook 'Em!!! PS... one year a lady behind us complained that all the fans were standing and the young man beside us turned around and said this to her: " Ma'am, we'll sit during the commercials, but please realize we merely SUBSIST for 364 days every year just waiting for this moment."

Yep... I've been following the Longhorns and CFB since 1969. My observation is that it's rare for an OL player right out of high school to play as a freshman... seems I've seen more kids be successful after redshirting that freshman season. I realize Texas' left tackle did it, but it's really not the normal path for the long term. Will be interesting to see how he does/doesn't develop in Norman. l l

Thanks! What a memory. My family and best friends were in our season seats in Section 26U. Loved that grass surface from Greg Norman Turf Co. RIP to our best friends who passed away far too young... Mark and Mary were wonderful Texas Exes and Longhorns fans and we miss them at every game. Mark was a Large Human at 6'6" and 350 and they left us at ages 43 and 49 from natural causes. Hook 'Em! Forever.

We miss the late Frank Erwin at times like these and on issues like this. I'm retired now, but I have had experience working with advisory commissions and similar organizations. I don't know the details about the new practice facility, but the artist renderings looked very good. I'm afraid the best outcome for the new practice facility may be the preservation of the building's facade and a prominent plaque/description of the historical significance of the site. Hope we don't have to fight a long litigation dispute here. Hook 'Em!

Realizing my comment is unfair... Lacey just looks far too small. I know he's got time to develop, but he appears borderline frail. It just shows how much credit Sark gets for identifying these players so early.

I had 30+ years working in the oil and gas industry. Also had a graduate school classmate at Texas who had been student body president at A&M. By far, and not even close, the former Sooner grads were more mainstream and easier to work with than the Ags. Just my decades of experience.

I watched her pitch twice past season. When I read that she was considering leaving Stanford I incorrectly assumed she was looking at three or four possible new teams. I NEVER considered Lubbock. If she graduates, for the rest of her life she can enjoy looking at her Tech diploma hanging on the wall and think about how she could have had almost as much NIL $ AND a Stanford diploma. Geez.

I agree with you Bobby. Some of my observations... I tuned out and didn't watch because I quickly tired of the young man indulging his out-sized ego. I know WRs tend to be divas, but I got the vibe that DKM was really savoring that he was about to stick it to the Longhorns again... first was the LSU commit ( I know he liked their WR as a youngster) and second was rejecting the Horns a second time by committing to the Ducks. You and OTF have interviewed other high school players this year who have impressed me and I especially like their desire to play for Texas. Other nuance factors include the fact that it's hard to believe DKM wouldn't want to catch passes from Arch Manning as opposed to future UO quarterbacks. Another factor is his former Duncanville teammates who are on the Texas roster...he showed them he didn't particularly care to join them in Austin. He showed his family members that he didn't care to play his college football within a four hour drive for them to attend and if he has family in Austin he won't feel the pressure to drop in on them for a visit. From a financial standpoint, I hope his agent made sure the "Delta" of any NIL from UO was large enough to offset the higher taxes he will incur. As you mentioned, I hope he thought about the stability and longevity of the two coaching staffs, and speaking of coaches, if it's true that he didn't make the courtesy phone call to the Texas coaches to say he was going to UO, well, that's a disappointment. Thanks for the excellent coverage. I wish we could always recruit a team full of Jordan Whittingtons and Shipleys and McCoys, but I understand the world doesn't turn that way. Recruitments like this one remind me that college coaches earn their money.
