Most heartbreaking play when it comes to Texas?
Jc Dobbs replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Unfortunately I was in attendance at both games. When Notre Dame beat the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl I recall being really disappointed that Texas played so poorly in such a big game situation. I remember driving away from the game with my friends and we just couldn't believe the team seemed so flat and unmotivated that day with so much on the line. Regarding the other Cotton Bowl loss... that one to Georgia, I remember Craig Curry muffing the punt in Longhorns territory late in the game. That edition of the Texas Defense was one of the best in the history of the program and after the dropped punt I thought since the Defense had shut down the Bulldogs the entire game there was no need to panic. It was about then Georgia ran an option play to the right and it opened up for the Touchdown... Georgia 10 and Texas 9. The defeat was crushing because of what could have been for the Horns that New Year's Day 1984 in the Cotton Bowl. My final awful memory was the Crabtree catch in Lubbock. That one...was just stupid. My memory of that game was how unbelievable it was that the Longhorns lost that game with such a clear talent advantage. Thanks for posting...I think! Hook 'Em! -
Baseball: No. 15 Texas vs. Texas Tech Game Thread
Jc Dobbs replied to Jeff Howe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
That's a good one Jeff! I suppose part of the fun of watching college sports is being nervous when your kicker is lining up a 40-yarder from the right hash and hoping your pitcher draws an umpire with a generous strike zone ... Hook 'Em! Glad to have Jeff Howe on the OTF team! -

Wow... I didn't know Bert Auburn could bring that kinda heat off the mound! Noticed he always sets up on the left side of the rubber. Excellent adjustment. Hook 'Em! -
I agree. I'm not a doctor but I have a good friend since my student days at the University who was an emergency medicine doctor for several years and then got into practicing sports medicine. He qualifies his comments like all doctors do with the usual "He's not my patient, etc." He says that since the injury was reported to be more than a simple tear of a single ligament ( like an ACL injury) you have to be conservative and allow for a longer period of time for post-op rehabilitation. So he says 12 months from the injury would be possible but optimistic to project a return to the field. On the pessimistic side, he says it's possible to expect up to 24 months from the date of the injury to project a return to competition. I'm sure the Texas staff will be careful with his future. As a fan of his, I'm hoping he's a fast healer and doesn't have any setbacks or complications. I'd love to see him back by the Oklahoma game. We know he's a hard worker and a dedicated team guy so here's hoping for the optimistic case for his return to the field. Hook 'Em!

Thanks! I never knew Crazy Water came from Mineral Wells. I've seen it before but now I'll have to try it!

Sorry to hear about your issues with kidney stones. A few years ago my daughter (who was 17 at the time) came into the master bedroom and woke me up at 3:30am. She was in serious abdominal pain and also had nausea. Took her to the hospital ER... diagnosed with a kidney stone and sent home with prescription medicine and pain medicine and told to drink lots of water and it would likely pass. Back home she got worse and I took her back to the ER. CT scan showed large stone in a difficult location. Urologist removed the stone surgically and she stayed in the hospital for two days. So I've seen how serious it can get. She has changed her diet and hydration and hasn't had any more problems. My neurologist recommended CForce to me for migraines. Gotta stay hydrated and he said Chuck's ranch artesian water has a very good electrolyte and pH profile. I really like it but Chuck is proud of it! Good luck with the kidney stones!

I really like CForce bottled artesian water from Chuck Norris' ranch outside of Navasota. Chuck had his ranch evaluated by geologists hoping to find oil and gas. Earth scientists told him the bad news was no oil and gas. Good news was deep artesian ancient aquifer of unusually pure quality. CForce is expensive but I really like the taste, the pH and mineral profile. HEB and Amazon carry it and it can be ordered from his website.

Keiiy. I'm surprised LSU has recruited as well as it has lately... I thought the TV broadcast of Kelly reaming out his WR on the sideline and cussing at him and telling him he's "uncoachable" would make recruits think twice about wanting to play for him. It wasn't the only episode showing how Kelly treated his players in the '24 season.

#86 was a great player and a great Longhorn.RIP Tim Campbell.

Excellent idea. I'm estimating 105k subs by 8/30/25 kickoff in The Shoe. I'm fascinated with the thought of everyone in a sold-out SRO DKR being an OTF subscriber. I agree with you on Bobby assembling an All Star team. I think another reason for the success of OTF is the overall good manners and love of Longhorns athletics. OTF has a nice comfortable vibe. I might be done as a Mavs fan
Jc Dobbs replied to TooBrokeToPayAttention21's topic in On Texas Football Forum
To me, Luka was easy to like but impossible to love. Especially when the question became a contract for HALF -A-BILLION Dollars!!! BTW, I used to go to Mavs games with my late father back in the Don Carter days and have some good memories. Never much of a fan after Mark Cuban. I think Cuban is a bit like Jerrah...he loves certain players. Even with Cuban gone, I've pretty much lost interest, but I think the Adelsons got about all they could for Luka and I don't see him leading the Lakers back to greatness. -
I'm retired from decades of work in corporate public affairs. I trained and briefed senior executives before they did media appearances. Also accompanied them on interstate media tours with print and electronic media mostly regarding issues in business and crisis public relations. Yesterday I listened to Arch's interview while out walking and thought... well, there it is. A training tape for execs and athletes before they start doing interviews. Bravo Arch! And Hook 'Em!

Excellent news. He received help from God, his parents, friends and family, physicians and nurses, and many others. He also has a strong will to live and compete. As a father I understand your concern and your joy. As a divorced man, I have zero advice on "how to tell my wife he's decided to play football again." Best wishes and Hook 'Em!

I was in attendance at the "44" game. Back then I had season tickets in Section 26U. My wife and I had close friends Mark and Mary who always drove with us from Dallas to Austin for the Longhorns games. Mark and his wife Mary were Texas fans through and through. The kind of good Texas Exes we all know and love. Sadly both have since passed away from natural causes. Mary was 43 when she died and Mark was 53. They are both missed by their friends and family. Thanks for posting the story about Cole Pittman. I remember him as a great player and an even greater young man who left his mark in the history of Texas football. That "44" game was special, just like he was.

Have enjoyed your posts for years in different places... This reminds me of why, way back in the 1970s, my SAT verbal was perfect and my Quant was one point above Stanley the Chimp! I have to spend $ in the restaurants in Vegas and stay away from the tables!
-
Well, it could have been considered a '"family event" if the young man was accompanied by a family member. Or 11 family members as we have seen at Texas before!!! Of course we'd like a coveted recruit to give a silent commitment on his first visit to the Forty Acres and stick with it until signing day. These days that seems rare. I remember how Mack didn't want his recruits to take other visits after an "understanding," but these days I personally feel better about a guy who has taken visits to his top 2-3 offers... perhaps that kid is less likely to hit the portal out if things don't go as he expected.

What was your favorite moment from this season?
Jc Dobbs replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Yeah...it was about to be over at 4th and 13 and it would have been ugly. Quinn recognized, reset and made the throw and Golden made sure of the reception. OL blocked every rush lane. TD on 4th and 13... relief and highlight. Hook 'Em! -

My daughter was born in April after the last Cowboys Super Bowl 1995. She'll be 30 this year. She graduated from UT in 2017. I left a long post today about going to Super Bowl VI in NOLA in 1972... Dallas 24 and Miami 3. Long time ago. The Longhorns will win 2+ Natty's before the Cowboys win another SB I'm sure! Glad to have you Jeff... followed you for years.

Yes! In1972, High School senior sitting in study hall reading the Wall Street Journal. Advertisement for Super Bowl tickets in WSJ from Murray's Tickets in Los Angeles. Typical high school stuff... looked at my buddies and said "let's go to the super bowl and see the Cowboys!" Called Murray and everything was far too expensive for us... Murray called me at home that night and said he wanted to help us "kids "out. He got 4 end zone tickets from the LA Rams and said we could have them for face value. $55 to sit in the end zone seemed like a lot back then. The fun started when I told my Dad my buddy James and I had gone to the Bank and purchased a cashier's check and sent it to Murray in LA for the Super Bowl tickets. Murray promised to mail the tickets to me when he got the cashier's check. My late father was pretty cool... but he went nuts and said James and I were idiots. Well, Murray was legit and an oversized brown envelope arrived with the oversized cool looking SB tickets. Airline travel was expensive back then and all the Motel 6 locations and every other budget motel was overbooked. We drove from Dallas to NOLA in James' father's station wagon with our other buddies Joe and Mickey. Slept in Audubon Park. Afternoon kick at Tulane Stadium and it was sunny and 36 degrees. Mick made a sign "Dolphin Soup For Supper" and we stood near the front of the team buses. The Miami players were very big and not amused! We asked people to see their tickets... like what if Murray was a counterfeit kinda guy? Tickets were legit. Dallas 24 and Miami 3. Staubach over Griese. Landry over Shula. Don Shula. A lifetime memory. So when I gave up on the Cowboys after they dogged the home Wild Card game last year...I said goodbye to a life of pulling for the Boys. Just sad. BTW, I looked up the present value of $55 in '72... now $425. Shows how much SB tickets have skyrocketed. Thanks for reading! Hook 'Em!

Thanks Horns96! Autocorrect got me...*tuned in, not "turned" in. One of my lifetime high school senior memories is scraping together $55 for an end zone ticket for Super Bowl VI in NOLA. Pre-Superdome. My buddies and I slept in the Ford Station Wagon in Audubon Park after driving from Dallas. Loved the Boys... pretty sad now. Best wishes to you! Hook 'Em!

I hit a wrong key just now and wiped out my long history with the Cowboys since 1960. Yes, 1960! Mercifully for all the OTF readers I won't start over! Agree with Horns 96 and it was painful after the no-show performance against the Pack at home after the '23 season. That's when I stopped caring about Jerrah's Boyz. Didn't watch a single snap this past '24 season. I'll watch the Super Bowl just because but I have lost my zest for the NFL for several reasons. When I turned in a couple of times and saw the ridiculous new kickoff formation it was the final straw. Even with NIL and all the changes in CFB I still love the Longhorns and the game of college football. Hook 'Em Horns!

He's going Fishin' and Huntin' with Jimbo on his private reserve properties!!!

Jeff is a great guy and genuinely human fellow. The OTF lineup is the best as it is, but adding Jeff would put OTF even further out ahead of all the rest. Hook 'Em!

I'm sure all Longhorns everywhere send their condolences. God Bless Dave and those who knew him and loved him. Hook 'Em Forever And Always.
