    Yes... I think Quinn will be a solid backup with an outside chance of developing into a decent starter. If a team takes him first round it's kind of on them. If he goes 3rd or 4th round like he should then that is not a bust. Were Colt McCoy, Simms, or Ehlinger busts? I definitely wouldn't say that for any of them. VY at #3 overall is a bit different.

    For sure. I mean it's not easy to be an NFL starter. Even our legendary QBs haven't been able to make that work. Quinn was a great player for us and personally I put him on the Sam Ehlinger / Chris Simms / Major Applewhite tier of the pyramid a step below Colt.

    I had high hopes for Quinn after the Bama and OU games in year one, but by the end of 2024 his limitations had been made very clear. NFL teams love the idea of a good QB on a rookie contract and maybe that gets him over drafted. He does have an arm that gives him more upside than some others, but IMO there is a ton of development needed to be a legit NFL starter.

    Sounds really harsh but I definitely don't see a likely NFL starter in Quinn. That doesn't make him a bust unless he just gets drafted in the first 2 rounds or something. Assuming he is in the 3rd or later he won't be a bust. Quinn has a number of red flags IMO. Not very big, not very athletic, injury prone, and poor presence in the pocket. Not great vision as a passer either. The strengths are an NFL starter arm and the ability to execute a complex offense pre snap. I think he could be a good pick for someone who could use a backup but doesn't need a new starter immediately. Realistically Quinn should have played another year of college ball but I'm selfishly glad he didn't, just so we can remember him purely as a Longhorn.

    I'm not a baseball guy either (don't watch MLB whatsoever) but it's the Longhorns in an otherwise dry part of the sports calendar. Baseball is also a nice sport to have on in the background while you tend to other things around the house! Definitely not glued to the TV like football.

    Why is that? I've been loving watching the games this year. No LHN so I can actually get the game on TV, and much more interesting competition in the SEC.

    I noticed that ESPN's BPI gives us a 40% chance of winning a game in the tournament. I'd think that would *probably* save RT's job for a year? If we lost first round it'd be an interesting decision for CDC, but if RT returned the excitement about the program going into next season would certainly be very low.

    I seriously doubt Texas is as far behind in NIL as we are on the court. But even if we are that far behind, that's a consequence of Terry inspiring zero confidence in and excitement about his program. This is college sports in 2025. Part of the job is fundraising, just like recruiting was always part of the job. Coaching basketball is also part of the job. Overall Terry is not even close to getting it done and this program is easily the worst across all sports at UT.

    Unlike Mack, Barnes seemed pretty classy about the whole thing. Perhaps he understood that the results just weren't up to par. Also unlike Mack I think Barnes is actually very good at coaching. I never agreed with the narrative that he was better at recruiting than coaching. What probably failed him more than anything was bad roster management. Too many one and dones and not enough experienced players that could play offense.

    Barnes peak was similar to what he is doing at Tennessee but he ended at Texas with 4 extremely mediocre seasons. The Barnes era was very stale at that point and there was nobody fretting the change. It's a bit surprising to me that he's been as good as he has at Tennessee (arguably better than he was here, even in the best years), but as Bierce mentioned his teams are still pretty reliable to melt down late in the season and lose early in the tournament. He is a fantastic basketball coach (especially defensively) but his managerial style is too intense to last for the entire season. Players wear down and the team ends up in a funk during the most important stretch of the season. As mediocre as RT is overall I will say he is better in this respect, and his teams seem to play better later in the season.

    So serious question here, can we bring back Chris Beard? I'm not in the "never should have fired him" camp. He forced our hand with an idiotic decision . That said, time has passed and circumstances have changed. Beard is a great basketball coach and a one of a kind fit in terms of understanding the strengths and weaknesses of this program. Bring the dude back. Donate some money to charity and say the apologies. Get with Sark on the sober lifestyle and let's win some damn basketball games. On RT, damn I have never seen such a soft team wearing Texas uniforms. Just pathetic.

    The big issue for me is that a later January portal isn't really compatible with um, the players actually going to college? It seems like a better solution is to get rid of all the dead time on the calendar and get the national championship game on NYD.

    I've seen it said elsewhere that in addition to the blocking he was a little slow to pick up the playbook, but he was liked by the coaches and not considered to be a character problem or anything like that. Hopefully in year two he can step up and take on a big role.

    C'mon man Quinn obviously had a much better supporting cast. Sam was able to beat Georgia unlike Quinn.

    Sam in 2019 in a Tom Herman offense with one decent receiver: 13 games, 3663 yards, 32 TD 10 Int 8.1 yards/attempt. Quinn in a Sark offense: 14 games, 3472 yards, 31 TD 12 int 7.8 yards/attempt. Where does this "Quinn and it's not close" narrative come from? As passers only it is extremely close. And then Sam is also a weapon with his legs (almost 2k career rushing yards and 33 TDs)... I'm sorry but I think Sam is the clear choice here. That's not disrespecting Quinn, it is respecting how good Sam was.

    For me it is Sam all day. He's only slightly behind Quinn as a passer and much better in terms of feel for the game and running. At the NFL level Quinn will be better because Sam lacks arm strength, but I don't think that inhibited him in college.

    The SEC sucks. All they did was provide us 7 patsies + UGA. Playing in the Big 12 in 2022 we were the #1 SOS in the entire country! Thx for the TV money though.

    Dude has been dominating in the NFL so far! Definitely one of the most memorable players I have seen at UT. Our defense would be absolutely incredible if we had him this year.

    Why do you say that? No way we are taking him back next year, given situation with Arch. If it's in his best interest to play another year of CFB (and IMO it probably is) then I support it and will root for him, assuming it's not some kind of rival or something.

    Feels like the NIL demands of these two were not reasonable. The WR has 800 yards and 3 TDs over two years... The DB probably won't see the field here. I get that there is a level of untapped potential here but personally I'm not allocating especially significant NIL resources to these two. Of course I'm sure they eventually will accept the market reality, in which case they could definitely help our team.

    Would be really dumb for an NFL team to match that $110M contract and it would be really dumb for Riley to forego that money to go be an NFL OC. Riley as an NFL HC would be a bad hire, but even if it happened you aren't giving him a 10 year contract. It's an awkward situation but until USC pulls an A&M (with Jimbo) it is what it is for both parties.
