    I’d definitely say it worked for them, national exposure, made it to the championship and had a chance to win it all, love fest for the Cinderella story. Without Canady they don’t even make a regional.

    Congrats Texas softball!!! So well deserved Kavan 0 earned runs the entire World Series. Mia Scott with a torn ACL, and the rest of the team not folding even after all those errors, not letting it snowball.

    Her normal position is 2nd, but Vivi’s injury screwed up the infield setup. Bennett is normally an outfielder.

    Interesting that Salmon is in the rotation ahead of Citlaly and Simpson as a freshman.

    I'm thinking Mac starts and Kavan comes in to close, else she goes game 3 if necessary. Late in the WCWS, White said that Kavan lost some velocity when she was tired, so it makes a difference for her to get rest.

    Not in softball, but Bo Jackson hit a double when they tried to intentionally walk him in the pros. And there the catcher was standing outside the box. Doesn’t take away from Reese though, that was clutch and some next level thinking on the spot.

    Longhorn network did something a few years back - kind of a bracket of Texas' greatest sports stars. I think the final was between Earl and Cat.

    Percentages say Atwood should break out of her slump in the series. As it is, Stewart and Mitchell have picked up the slack, but if the top of the order gets going . . . (extremely difficult against Canady).

    That's extremely difficult, you have guys and gals before my time like James Street who not only won a national championship, he never lost a game as QB, and he's also thrown the only perfect game in UT baseball history. You'd probably need to make a Mt. Rushmore per sport and even then it would be difficult in some of the sports. Other notable names: Early Campbell (1st Heisman trophy), Cat (Gold medal, multiple PoY awards), Clarissa Davis (national champion in bball, 2x PoY), Ben Crenshaw (3x NCAA champion), Tommy Nobis (national champion), Madi Skinner (3x national champion - back to back with Texas), Julien Alfred for track & field, Tara Davis for long jump, the list goes on and on.

    Cat Osterman was ahead of her time, just imagine how many wins she'd have if she had an offense like the current Texas softball team. She was beyond dominant.

    As I think through the major the team sports, I would have to agree with you that in softball, 1 pitcher can literally carry the team. Cat Osterman did it for Texas back in the day and had they had a shadow of an offense would have won the natty a few times. There were so many games where Cat lost and the decision was 1-0 in extra innings. Like literally all the team had to do was score 1 run during regulation for the win. No other team sport can 1 player carry the team with little help. Baseball might be close, but the pitcher can only go once every few days. Near impossible in football, even if a person plays both ways, possible in basketball, but extremely difficult, volleyball no way.

    The announcers really were trying to sell that Canady went to Tech because they would work on her hitting. That may have been a factor, but I'm hard pressed to believe that the $1 mil was not the bigger factor. If Tech wins it, it's proven that in softball you can basically buy your championship.

    Also ou fans claiming that they don’t have home field advantage because it’s not in Norman is either ignorant or arrogant, probably both. its probably above their education level to understand that logistically it’s easier for their fans to go to the game because it’s in their home state and the drive is likely shorter than from Dallas to Austin, especially for weekday games when most people have to work or take time off. You average fan wouldn’t be able to say - hey let’s go watch the wcws on a whim.

    Landry is running out of gas, she’s thrown a ton of pitches at the wcws. Was hoping ou could make canady throw a lot of pitches but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

    It’s because of recency bias, which is natural. If Mack rode off into the sunset without doing anything deemed negative or complaining, people would have remembered him for the great years that he brought. Instead, people remember him fighting his way out and allegedly sabotaging the program to not be able to hire Saban who won more championships at bama.

    This makes me think of that barstool sports video where the guys are explaining to Kayce Smith where Texas and ATM fall in the hierarchy of sports. I can't seem to find the tweet though. If any more savvy social media folks want to find it.

    To be fair, he's talking to his fan base, pretty much any coach in the country is pumping his team up and hyping up their fan base. Will they actually become good? That's still to be seen, that's why you play the games.

    Which is harder - pulling an OK kid or a LA kid? Both OU and LSU pretty much own their respective states in terms of fanbase. I guess with OK at least OU has to compete with OSU. LSU has no competition at all for loyalty in LA.

    Two things can be true at the same time. Example: Art Briles is an absolutely terrible human being. He's also an offensive genius when it comes to football.
