  1. Most people -- you, me, anyone -- would take that bag and not look back. If he has a Stanford degree and the smarts to go with it, he'll be fine. Back before the NCAA realized how bad it made them look, it released the average SAT scores for each school's signees in football and basketball. Stanford was at the top of the list, ahead of all the schools with academic reputations.
  2. He's also probably not interested in having his program have to count pennies to balance that Jimbo buyout.
  3. But they could start a brawl. No, wait, that was a Chris Mack joint.
  4. 2002-2011 was the best decade of Texas basketball by a mile.
  5. Barnes couldn't recruit in Texas as he once had.
  6. This is the problem. A money-whip (TM) only works when someone is willing to be whipped. If you have a pretty good-sized bank account by your own standards and don't want to lose the biggest job you might get in two years... you stay where you are.
  7. For those wondering: I'll believe it when I see it.
  8. Acknowledging this will require ability to observe.
  9. I dunno about preferring DeVries to Chris Beard, if that was a thing.
  10. I don't think he was, but as I have explained to people for years, the hard thing is not to talk about his team when he is out of the room, but to explain to him when he gets back in the room that his team is OUT and this is WHY it's out. I am not sure that a team under consideration that has had a rep on the committee has ever been left out. I'm sure it has happened but it is rare. First thing I thought of when I saw that they were in. And they were the last team in. The vice chair said UNC would have been out if Memphis had lost, but I wonder.
  11. Well.... yeah. But most coaches at this level end up failing. They get fired. Texas could afford, if they really wanted to do it, to hire a tested, great coach for men's basketball. They've never really done that. Beard was the closest thing to that, having made a FF. But he was an alum -- not that makes him less of a coach, but rather gave Texas an in to offer a deal at roughly market to someone who was inclined to accept it. Should they end up making a change here, people need to watch this carefully. With the standard CDC has set with his own words, the financial investment to do that is way beyond what they have done in the past, especially with the added cost of compensating the talent. We'll all see it, and judge accordingly.
  12. There is a zero point zero chance that Jay Wright is coming back to college basketball.
  13. If they have the money for the buyout, God bless 'em.
  14. That’s what you get when the other team is about 45 minutes away.
  15. So who is the coach with the achievements of Schloss that CDC will have to land?
  16. I suppose it depends on the ref but I've watched a lot of tournament games over a lot of years and I think it will be comparable to how the SEC is called. (shrug)
  17. I am an Underwood fan, but I've heard that Illinois is where he wants to be.
  18. Texas was 41 on the seed list, so the first of the last four at-larges.
  19. Actually, I think the games have been more physical if anything. They don’t want FT shooting contests.
  20. Wondering if Texas would be in OU's position (comfortably in) had it won the games it lost and lost to Vandy on Wednesday. I think the answer is yes. The wins this week helped but they haven't wiped out all of those losses, and two of 'em were really bad.
  21. That's obviously fair about the schedule. They have to be perfect to avoid blemishes. I would note that Irvine is the only other team in the BW that is ranked better than USC-E. With UCSD starting to get it together, I can see the good side. Unfortunately, bubble teams are not going to be playing them. The real question about the schedule is how many teams could win seven Q1 games if given 17 chances -- especially if they're playing a healthy sampling of Auburn, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee.
  22. UCSD pulls to within two at the half. They do not have it together, but it is clear that these teams know each other. It's how they were able to get back in it.
