Hoops: College coaching carousel 2025
Bevo92 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Even though Florida is playing excellent basketball, you can mark Todd Golden off the list. His sexual harassment claims last year by UF several female students isn’t a good look. Especially after Chris Bears incident, character and clean record are important. -
Hoops: College coaching carousel 2025
Bevo92 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
It’s time for CDC to start the formal search. Blowout loss to Gamecocks was final nail in the coffin. Couple of coaches that would be interesting: 1) Nate Oates (home run hire but massive buyout makes this reach seem unlikely). Recruiting, coaching, second to none, etc. 2) Royal Ivey - strong history with UT, deep experience in NBA as player and assistant coach. Proved to have strong coaching chops as head coach of South Sudan team starting in 2021. Nearly beat US before 2024 Olympics. SSD became the Cinderella story at 2024 Olympics. Love his story as a player and coach. 3) Not a ton of exciting options out there but definitely some solid options that would be big upgrade over current staff. +McCasland has gotten Texas Tech on right track. +Rick Pitino has turned St John’s around. CDC likely wants to go younger. + TJ Otzelberger - Has Iowa State playing well the past several years. -
Hoops: Texas at South Carolina Game Thread
Bevo92 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The silver lining to our Horns getting blown out by 0-13 last place South Carolina in late February is that it’s no longer a debate for CDC. RT is a very nice guy but he is not up to the ‘standard’ at UT. It’s time for change in the head coach at UT. Don’t wait. Pull the trigger this next week, install interim HC and get ahead of the coaching search by starting now: In CDC’s interview with @Bobby Burton yesterday, CDC used the analogy of being the captain of an aircraft carrier versus a motor boat on the lake. Both float and have a motor but it takes a different level of talent to be the captain of the Texas Longhorn aircraft carrier in each sport. Texas Longhorns deserve better. The past several years have been painful following the Great 8 run. It’s time to move forward. With the right coach, we can begin to have reason for optimism next season. im looking forward to seeing how CDC decides to proceed with upgrading the coaching in men’s basketball. Hook em! 🧡🤘🏼🐂 -
I appreciate the integrity of these guys giving credit where due for the first to report “breaking news”. I recall Bobby doing the same when Anwar broke the news on Orphey hire. Anwar reciprocated with recognition to @Bobby Burton re: Sark’s hire of Chad Scott. It has to be tough getting news like this on new coaching hires, confirming its accuracy, etc and working to be first to break the news publicly, knowing you have to be right. Kudos to @Bobby Burtonon having the sources to confirm with confidence. Love it and love this hire. Classic Sark hire. Hook em!! 🧡🤘🏼🐂

Agree. I’m sure there’s a story behind Norton’s choice to wear #15. Unusual to see a big interior DL choose a number typically worn by QB, WR, RB, DB, etc. Wish Bill Norton success at the next level. He made some clutch plays for us at big moments. Hook em! 🧡🐂🤘🏼

Texas has a chance to do the funniest thing ever(Basketball)

Would love to see CDC go after Nate Oates but his $18m buyout that was included in new 6yr contract is a killer. -
Awesome 2nd half for the Lady Longhorns after being down 9 at half. Great win over Kim Mulkey and LSU! Hook em! 🧡🤘🏼🐂

This article is funny and provides a bit more context behind the terrible design. Headline reads: “Something a 2-Year-Old Would Design”: Calls Mount Against Adidas for Making John Calipari’s SEC Rivals a Laughing Stock https://www.essentiallysports.com/ncaa-college-basketball-news-something-a-two-year-old-would-design-calls-mount-against-adidas-for-making-john-caliparis-sec-rivals-texas-a-m-a-laughing-stock/

The backlash across the country to Aggie latest uniform design is way too funny. Texas A&M reveals truly hideous uniforms. Buckle up because you're not going to believe how bad these uniforms from the Aggies are. I hope you haven't eaten anything recently because you're going to want to puke. https://www.outkick.com/sports/texas-am-ugly-basketball-uniforms

Hoops: Texas vs. No. 15 Kentucky Game Thread

Bigger picture….16-10 and unranked all season is a massive disappointment by any standard that is temporarily offset by a few good wins. -
Hoops: Texas vs. No. 15 Kentucky Game Thread
Bevo92 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I don’t get it. We lose to teams we clearly have superior talent then we beat teams that we’re expected to lose. Beating #15Kentucky, and coming back to beat #13A&M and throttling LSU by 30 are all great wins…..followed by some frustrating losses to Arkansas and Vandy and a few others we had every oppty to win. Some nights our team looks lifeless and a bit lost. Other nights we look solid and almost dominant (LSU). What the f is our team identity??? Would love to see Horns build any kind of consistent momentum? Is it coaching, culture, matchups or something else? College basketball used to be so much freakin fun. I loved being in school during the Penders BMW era 1988 - 1992. We cheered nonstop at games in the drum for Lance Blanks, Joey Wright, Travis Mays, Benford Williams, Lockslie Colley, Dexter Cambridge, etc. Back then, the Men’s Basketball Team had a passionate ‘running horns’ identity and it was nonstop fun. We scored a ton of points and unfortunately we weren’t always the best on defense so the games were always high scoring on both ends. Even when we were outmatched by Nolan Richardson and his hogs…, Todd Day, Lee Mayberry, Big O Ed Oliver, etc. Those games were absolutely awesome!!!! Then it got really fun again in the 2000s during the Rick Barnes era with TJ Ford, Royal Ivey, James Thomas and a few years later with DJ Augustin, Dexter Pittman, Damion James, etc. its hard to get into men’s basketball right now. Tonight was a good win. In some ways, seeing us win tonight makes me even more convinced it’s time for CDC to upgrade the coaching staff and make a change next season. It doesn’t seem like our issue is talent as much as it is disciplined execution and putting our guys in best position to win/. With better coaching could we be sitting at 20-6 instead of 16-10? I don’t know. I’m not a coach. I’m just a passionate alumni and fan. I know… The SEC is stacked.. but it’s hard to get excited to watch our men’s basketball with the continued roller coaster season they’re having now 2 consecutive years/. CDC has made the same call in football, baseball, women’s basketball, etc. He had to hire RT after the Great 8 run in 2023 but 2 yrs of mediocrity is enough to believe it’s not going in the right direction. I’m looking forward to getting excited about men’s basketball again. Hook em! 🧡🤘🏼🐂 -
The financial disparity (and contrast in design quality) is mind boggling. Texas’ 15yr agreement with Nike in 2015 set a new record high mark at that time, valued at $250m for 15 yrs. Nike’s apparel / shoe / uniform designs are second to none. First class. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/2016/10/12/details-of-utnike-250-million-contract-include-cash-up-front-kevin-durant-line-of-apparel/9789376007/ Looking at other top apparel deals from the past 15 yrs and UT is still at the top. Impressive. Only Ohio State and UCLA are in the same vicinity and a few others are close but not A&M, lol. https://campusinsiders.com/editorial/richest-college-team-apparel-contracts/ By contrast over in College Station, A&M inked a new 5yr extension last year to remain with Adidas for $47m. Yes, you read that correctly. Students, athletes, most everyone who calls themselves an Aggie are pissed at the embarrassing results from Adidas, including the amateur uniform designs. The latest men’s basketball jersey may set a new low standard. Is this a joke? LMFAO. 🤣 https://www.si.com/college/tamu/texas-am-aggies-new-adidas-deal-criticized Hook em!! 🤘🏼🐂🧡

Agree. Johntay needs to be surrounded by strong men of character and integrity to help him get right. Hopefully this is his ‘bottom’ and the turnaround begins.
-
Really sad to see JC spiraling. Hope Johntay gets surrounded by strong support system. If he would get his mind right, would love to see comeback story somewhere like SMU, Boise State, Arizona St.
