  1. Before answering his question on relationships with the high school coaches in Texas, North Texas’ Eric Morris thanks Craig Bohl and the AFCA, on behalf of “all the Mike Leach guys” on lowering the winning percentage requirement for coaches to be consider for the College Football Hall of Fame.
  2. Former Texas quarterback GJ Kinne opens his portion of the Q&A by congratulating his coach at Gilmer, Jeff Traylor, on going into the THSCA Hall of Honor last night.
  3. Dave Aranda said the coaches are trying to catch up to using in-game technology.
  4. Mike Elko gets a question about on-field communication devices. He said the current model is fine with one player on offense and defense having communication device. He said it mirrors the NFL model, which is fine.
  5. On the transfer portal, Rhett Lashlee said, point blank, “one window would be great.”
  6. Sonny Dykes and Joey McGuire like the December signing window, but they’d both like to see it moved up to before the season starts.
  7. Sonny Dykes said one of the drawbacks to the recruiting calendar as it stands is the head coaches are getting less and less time off campus to spend with prospects.
  8. I’m in favor of regulation regarding agents. As Coach Bohl said, they want to work with the good agents and eliminate the “bad actors.”
  9. A lot of talk about agents and players getting exploited with no oversight in the NIL era.
  10. Craig Bohl from the AFCA just said there’s never been more of a lack of clarity in football than what coaches are dealing with right now. ”The good news is,” he said, “the cavalry is coming.”
  11. They’re about to start the FBS head coaches panel discussion. It’s all of the FBS coaches in Texas doing a Q&A with Craig Way. On Sark’s side of the stage: Jeff Traylor (UTSA), Scotty Walden (UTEP), Mike Elko (Texas A&M), Sonny Dykes (TCU), GJ Kinne (Texas State) and Joey McGuire (Texas Tech).

  15. They've got Michael Terry III "honed in" on being a wide receiver right now. "Once he can master that, or come close to, we'll let him spread his wings a little bit," he said.
  16. Sark said Moore has had a great summer, "which setting up for a great fall for him," he said.
  17. Sark said you could feel Trey Moore's presence late in the year on third down. They moved him to linebacker to take advantage of his versatility.
  18. Sark said there's a difference between collecting talent and building a team. Relationships allow the Longhorns to build a team and a culture instead of just adding talented players to the roster.
  19. Sark said high school coaches can't throw their hands in the air and accept that agents are involved.
  20. Sark would like to deal with high school coaches more in recruiting. "I think they need to be bullish to not let their role be diminished," he said.
  21. Sark doesn't think the recruiting dynamics going head to head against Texas A&M have changed much since Texas joined the SEC. "We won a couple of critical battles that helped us along the way," he said.
  22. Sark on the staff's recruiting process: "We don't chase stars."
  23. The last few seasons, Sark said they'd use the third week of camp as a primer for the big non-conference game. This year, they'll start preparing for Ohio State during the third week of camp and stay after it until the game.
  24. Sark said he'll use two full weeks of camp to get ready for Ohio State. It'll be a lot like a bowl game, he said.
