  1. Well I was going to say scroll up 😉… but we are both wrong. I spoke to someone near the program and, starting this year, you must be 21 by 07/31. No more window.
  2. There’s a small window the MLB gives. It’s either 45 or 90 days… don’t know for sure which one, but Flores slides in under that mark. Belyeu barely misses the cut. Flores, Thomas and Galvan should all be eligible.
  3. No, but just barely. Players are eligible three years after first enrolling at a four year university, or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). So no by the first criteria, as he's only a sophomore. He's also 20 years and 5 months old and will be 20 years and 7 months old for this year's draft. One more year!
  4. Join us at 8 AM to talk about the Horns and hear the latest news in recruiting; team notes and more. We’ll be taking your questions as always!
  5. Texas outfielder Max Belyeu was named Big 12 Player of the Year and TCU left-hander Payton Tolle was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year as the Conference unveiled its 2024 All-Big 12 Baseball Awards. The honorees were selected in a vote of the league’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own players. Oklahoma’s Skip Johnson was picked as Coach of the Year, after leading the Sooners to their first Big 12 regular season title. Kansas hurler Dominic Voegele was named Freshman of the Year, while Tolle added Newcomer of the Year to his trophy case. A total of 17 student-athletes were named to the All-Big 12 First Team, with Oklahoma State’s Carson Benge, and West Virginia’s JJ Wetherholt earning a first-team nod for the second consecutive season. Belyeu hit 11 of his 17 home runs in Big 12 games, tying for the league lead in Conference play. The sophomore from Aledo, Texas hit .341 with 14 doubles and 49 RBIs, good for a 1.147 on-base plus slugging, which ranked third in the league. He is the fifth Texas player to win the award, and the second in the past three seasons. Tolle, who was the only unanimous selection on the All-Big 12 First Team, led the Conference with a 2.96 earned run average while posting a 7-3 record and a .191 batting average against. In Big 12 games, his 2.26 ERA and .184 batting average against led all starting pitchers. The junior from Yukon, Oklahoma is the first player to win both pitcher and newcomer awards in the same season from any school and becomes the second Horned Frog to win each of the awards. Voegele posted a 7-2 record with a 3.32 ERA, holding batters to a .228 average during his debut season in Lawrence. In league play, the righty from Columbia, Illinois ranked eighth among qualified pitchers with a 3.60 ERA and notched five of his seven wins. He becomes the second Kansas player to win Freshman of the Year, with the award now going to Jayhawks in back-to-back seasons. Johnson guided the Sooners to a 23-7 mark that included six sweeps of Big 12 opponents, as OU captured the regular season title by three games. He is the first Oklahoma coach to receive the Conference honor. 6. Well now I am just jealous.
  7. It definitely sucks sometimes but on certain days when he doesn’t lift, I’ve learned to appreciate this quiet time, as my wife isn’t usually up until 6:30 (although she’s a teacher, so probably will be later now that school is out).
  8. CBS Sports predicts Longhorns will have 95 rating overall, which would be the 4th best rating in the game behind Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon. Offense: 97 | Defense: 93 Texas starter and EA Sports cover athlete Quinn Ewers will, at the very least, be one of the two highest-rated quarterbacks in the game. Wide receiver Isaiah Bond, offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and running back CJ Baxter will likely join him in that upper echelon. The Longhorns have a lot of offensive firepower. The defense has its fair share of standouts, with excellent safeties and a well-rounded group of linebackers. On the downside, Texas does have to replace a pair of NFL Draft picks (T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy) along the defensive line and both of its starting boundary cornerbacks following Terrance Brooks' recent decision to transfer to Illinois. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ea-sports-college-football-25-georgia-ohio-state-lead-projected-top-10-teams-ahead-of-video-games-release/
  9. One in three high-profile athletes receive abusive messages from individuals with a "betting interest," and more than 540 men's and women's college basketball players received similar abuse, including death threats, during championship tournaments in March, the NCAA said in a release on Friday. The NCAA looked at athletes participating in sports that attract the most betting interest -- football and basketball, among others -- and found that online abuse is widespread. Signify, an artificial intelligence company and NCAA partner, covered 1,000 Division I men's and women's college basketball players, 64 teams, more than 200 coaches and 120 NCAA game officials during March Madness. The analysis, which is part of an NCAA initiative aimed at combating online abuse and harassment, found 4,000 posts or comments that were confirmed to be abusive or threatening during March Madness. The NCAA said the data showed women's basketball players received approximately three times more overall threats than men's players and that 15-25% of abuse directed at players, coaches and officials who are involved in the most popular college sports was related to betting. 10. Haha. Well, I do… I just only sleep about 5-6 hours a night usually. Unfortunately from my oldest son working out early mornings, I’ve been “trained” to wake up around 4:45-5 since last fall. Now school is out, he doesn’t lift until 9 AM and is sound asleep, but here we are…
  11. Let’s gooooooooo! Coffee and Football starts at 8 AM and I’m back in the saddle with Bobby and Gerry. We will be taking your questions and talking all about the Longhorns. Come join us!
  12. Some offensive numbers (team wise) for Texas as of today and where they rank in the NCAA amongst D1 schools. BA: .290 (93) OBP: .378 (174) SLG PCT: .533 (22) 122 doubles (155) 106 home runs (12)
  13. You can ask questions in the daily thread I post each morning for Coffee and Football or you can join the show live via YouTube/X and ask on there.
  14. Also think it’s BS that Oklahoma State gets number 2 by default because they played 2 less games and have one less loss, even though they have one less win. Oklahoma State: 19-9 Texas 20-10 And now they get a first round bye.
  15. Ugliest bracket I’ve ever seen. Link to bracket: https://s3.amazonaws.com/big12sports.com/documents/2024/5/18/BSB_4x5.pdf
  16. Yeah I thought that was an interesting note (probably the most interesting) from that interview.
  17. THEY. DID. IT. AGAIN!!!!!!!!
  18. Thank you. Hadn’t had a chance to post about it yet, so appreciate it!
  19. Paul Skenes is the first player in AL/NL history to toss 6 IP with 10+ Ks and ZERO HITS within his first two career starts. Dude is must see TV. I’ve watched more Pirates games this season (2) than I have in the last ten years. All because of Skenes.
