I kept my eyes on the offensive line last night and something popped up in my mind. Some of the Olineman seemed a little short in the torso and long in the legs. Maybe I'm just seeing things but when Cambell was running down the sidelines on a run play I noticed that he doesn't have that typical low center of gravity that's considered ideal for interior guys. Then I started looking at the line in general ................ That's often called being "Hi Cut". I see this term in NFL combine analysis and it's often considered a negative in run blocking. Also, when the Coleman brothers and Daniel Cruz got involved they actually seemed more torso/leg proportional than the starters did. Maybe I'm just reaching in an attempt to understand the lack of run game push. I'm open to being completely wrong here. Has anybody noticed that our lineman seemed a little hi cut?

4 starters from last year made NFL rosters. If that doesn't buy a coach a little more grace than this, I don't know what does.

My thoughts: DBs - Until we play a seasoned QB, we don't really know if our DBs have gelled and their communication is comparable to last year. OSU was protecting Sayin. He wasn't asked to scan the middle of the field and make a decision. LBs - Seemed assignment sound to me. I think we have a good group that's only going to get better. DLs - Very good overall against the runs. Didn't step up on goal line a short yardage situations but perhaps we've been a little spoiled from last year. I like our DTs and I think they are only going to get better as the coaching staff figures out the right combinations. EDGEs- I'm not sure. Sayin did very little dropping back and scanning the field. I'm going to assume we have a very good pass rush though. OSU pretty much conceded that to us via their scheme. Offensive Line - I am thrilled with our run game in general but as usual, once we are in obvious short yardage situations, something happens and I am baffled. Sark needs a short yardage consultant. RBs - Very impressive. Other teams aren't going to have the same defensive back field OSU had and are going to be forced to cheat their way up to the line of scrimmage. That will play into Arch's strengths. WRs TEs - I was surprised how little they got opened, but again, OSU's defensive backs are the strength of the team. So I'm not sure how I feel yet. I'm excited about Livingston though. Wingo needs to grow a little. QB - Ugh. IMO, Quinn Ewers had one strength and only one strength - hitting receivers in stride with short passes. Arch is inaccurate and puts way too much mustard on his short throws. He needs to calm the eff down and watch some film on Ewers. I'm not saying Ewers was a great QB (he had zero pocket presence, zero ability to improvise and couldn't throw a deep ball) but Arch HAS to improve on those short passes Sark designs to scheme WRs open. If he doesn't do that, we are going to get behind the chains way to often. I simply don't know what to think of Arch yet. I'm anywhere from "He'll learn from this and become a good QB" to "I hope KJ Lacy matures fast." I'm just shocked.

I spent 30 days at a Longhorn ranch a couple of years ago. It was there that I realized what "horns down" really means. If one of those bad boys suddenly bends his head down and shakes the horns, it's time to give him some space. Trust me people, a Longhorn staring at you with his horns up is way safer than one with his horns down. He's warning you. So keep throwing those "horns down" signs. People in the know are laughing at you!

Uh oh. They are replacing both starting DTs from last year anyway. This dude was a 5 star. Good luck young man! Heal fast (just wait until week 2 please) EDIT: I just read (from a headline of a different article) the injury is not serious. EDIT (of the edit): The headline said it wasn't serious but all the article provided was the coach said he doesn't have any information yet. I hate headlines sometimes.

Caleb Williams Mocks TCU's QB for crying after a loss. One year later, he's not only crying after a loss, but he's crying in his mommy's arms. What a hypocrite. I have no problem with crying after a loss............until you start mocking others for it.

Two Longhorns Named to Maxwell Award Watch List
Casey67 replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I feel most sites underrate (not underappreciate) Wisner. The SEC leading rusher wasn't supposed to start and wasn't ready with the requisite body armor. Imagine how good he's going to be with it. I think he's our starter and stays our starter (with many more relief pitchers ready to spell him) -

Wes Huff (amazing biblical scholar) Joe Rogan (if the guest interests me), Flagrant (if the guest interests me) Various Christian podcasts (Bill Johnson especially). National sports stuff is still stuck in the formulaic, legacy-media style format which just absolutely bores me to death (can't stand listening to folks speaking in sound bytes......especially when they've done it for so long that they don't realize they are doing it.............it's like watching zombies walk) In this new age of media, authenticity is currency. That's why long-form podcasts are a hit (you can't fake it for 3 hours). I sense authenticity from Bobby so that's why I chose OTF as my lone sports source (I'm only a fan of the Longhorns.......no other teams, pro or college, interest me)

Bobby, Does this essentially cause a wave of "renegotiations" with kids already verbally committed? -

It can't hurt but, given we're going against Oregon, it doesn't help either. Money is no object to either school. -

OTF Premium Brayden Rouse announcing July 8
Casey67 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Staff: Most cycles, it seems like a head coach event at another school (retirement, firing, promotion, hot seat) really benefits Texas via decommitments. Mario Cristobal leaving Oregon in 21, Saban retiring, the '25 Florida class, etc. Which schools' recruits might Texas really need to hang around the rim for this year? I ask because we have been #2 so often with elite recruits this cycle. -
Give Me Your Thoughts | Coverage for the Fall
Casey67 replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Oh, you messed with the wrong mod. I disagree 100%. I love listening to Rod's stories...........and it's not like he's just going to down memory road on a joy ride. He uses his past experiences to provide insight into the current team and culture. People should cherish Rod B. I know I do. -

During the "watch with us" game time show: Every once in a while give a game time clock countdown so we can synch up. For example: "It's the first quarter at 1:53, 1:52, 1:51, 1:50." I love listening to you guys live with the game sound muted but I hate hearing a big play 2 seconds before I see it. LOL -
4-star+ WR Kaydon Finley to Notre Dame
Casey67 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Exactly. We basically got three 5 stars WRs last year (Locket, French, Terry) and must allocate resources to keep them......not replace them. I love the two WRs we got this cycle. Both have fantastic attitudes and seem to have what it takes to be patient and wait their turn (this is exactly what you need the year after three 5 stars arrive) In Sark I trust. -
Exactly. Texas has been very good at "staying #2" with certain recruits because of uncertainty with the other teams' coaches. The Oregon Ducks' Mario Cristobal was the #1 choice for Kelvin Banks and Cam Williams. Cristobal leaves for a new head coaching position and their second choice (Texas) scooped them both up. Texas hung around the rim and it payed off. The Aggies Jimbo Fisher was the #1 pick for Anthony Hill. Jimbo had a terrible season, was totally on the hot seat, and Hills second choice (Texas) got him to flip. Being #2 can simply be a stepping stone to #1 if the dominoes fall the right way.

Steve Spurrier Isn’t Buying The Arch Hype
Casey67 replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Quinn was a good executioner of short to intermediate passing plays when protected. He really was. He hit receivers in stride beautifully (especially RBs) but (always a but), he couldn't function off script and that's what we needed a couple of times last year and that's what NFL scouts saw. However, that does NOT necessarily mean what Spurrier seems to be implying (that Arch isn't as good as Quinn or else he would have started). At the beginning of the season, Quinn was the best QB on the team. He was absolutely fantastic vs. Michigan. He did nothing to lose his job from that point on. I think he was more hampered by injuries this season than we know but his play was good enough. There was never a reason to pull Quinn and risk QB growing pains mid season. There was too much on the line to play with fire like that. Spurrier is probably just pissed that the Longhorns are in the SEC, having success, and expanding their recruiting footprint all over the south east. For years, the SEC pooped on the Longhorns as an inferior team from an inferior conference. I think what is happening with the Longhorns scares them and little Stevie doesn't like it. The SEC expected Aggie Part 2.........but that's what they got. The team mocked for "being back" actually came back right in the face of the mighty SEC. Hook Em
