Chris Henry Announcing at 11:10 on McAfee
Casey67 replied to Traves's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Atkinson committed on McAffee? Well put a tank top on me and call me Sally. I did not know that. I'm losing my recruiting chops.............. BTW, is Bru McCoy still leaning Texas? I think he's going to flip from USC. -

If he's on McAfee, I already don't want him. -
So Saban and Smart are the baseline? My friend, you have the gift of hind site (which CDC doesn't) on this one. Who would you have hired that would have equaled Saban or Smart? (not so easy is it?)

Good point. Especially South Carolina vs. Clemson. I lived in SC and that is a huge rivalry. I think putting the top 12 teams (with no automatic qualifiers period) cures everything. But I would still avoid scheduling Blue Blood OOC games even if we went to that format. I'd rather see Texas and Texas A&M schedule in state only OOC games. One Big 12 (Tech, Baylor, TCU, Houston or SMU) in state opponent and 2 in state cupcakes. Oklahoma could play Oklahoma state and two cupcakes. That would be a way to enforce conference superiority perceptions for the ranking committees. And for God's sake, schedule some of those OOC toward the end of the season.

It wasn't a waste at all. They did NOT underperform. Instead, we as a fan base overrated them. We lost the following to the NFL: 4 starting offensive lineman. our starting tight end, our best receiver and.......oh yea, our starting QB. We should never have expected a CFP appearance. We should be happy we got as close as we did. I'm impressed with this team. We are a couple of inside offensive lineman away from a top 5ish team next year. What more could we ask for?

This may be an UNPOPULAR viewpoint, but..

I agree. We were in denial about offensive turnover especially. We lost 4 starting offensive lineman, our best receiver, our starting tight end and our starting quarterback. We were in rebuild mode. I look forward to next year. -

Not unpopular at all. I freaking loved last night. I was in my living room standing most of the time. I couldn't relax. I felt like if I relaxed, the team would relax. I know that's stupid but that's how I felt last night. At half time, I felt A&M was clearly the better team and I thought, "We'd better play like they are a better team" meaning turn Arch into a gun slinger and dial up run blitzes to compensate for inferior line play on both sides of the ball. Instead, the Horns just manned up and whipped them on both fronts. I've never been more proud of this team. -

Excited for A&M, but also the growth this year
Casey67 replied to Alex C's topic in On Texas Football Forum
There were a lot of injuries to DBs during the game last night. The freshman and sophomores stepped up big time. Akina didn't suddenly forget how to coach. Schemes take time and meshing schemes takes even longer. It seems like the younger the players on the field are, the better we do and that bids well for Akina. -
Ethan Burke (24/7 3 star) - He was everywhere. Harassing Reed, blocking field goals, stealing undershirts to save TDs, setting the edge (something aggie couldn't do) Tre Wisner (composite 3 star) - What patience he displayed. He knew when to slow down, when to cut, when to burst, when to lower his head and fight......what a rivalry killer he is. Trevor Goosby (24/7 3 star) - Casius who? You might not have noticed him all night...........but that's kind of my point. Recruits, Current Commits and young players currently on the team: Pay attention to what happens when you stick around.

Which head? One of them should ALWAYS be off limits. -
Franklin getting fired is good for Texas. When a Blue Blood program fires a coach a pretty significant domino affect usually occurs (unless they hire internally from a true retirement scenario such as Stoops to Lincoln Riley) Whoever replaces Franklin will need to be replaced at his old school and that guy too will need to be replaced and so on and on. That opens up so many doors for other programs on Penn State's blue blood level. Granted, I'd rather it be a blue blood SEC coach as that would be more relevant but since Texas does recruit nationally, I'm getting a little excited here.

Yes. I made a post about that very thing after the Florida game. I had been defending Flood but the the more I thought about it, the more I realized the only thing I really had was draft picks to justify Flood. You're right............they did not perform like a line with 4 players that would be on NFL rosters in a few months. Flood needs to go.
-
Yea, it went from "There's a chance we get Ojo, Turntine, Roseborough and Krempin in one class" to only getting Turntine. We sure aren't helping our chances with Malakai Lee with this on field performance. The one that stung me personally was Roseborough because we probably missed out on him because of Ojo's deception. That whole thing just stunk but, at the end of the day, Flood's not producing a dominant line and he has every resource at his disposal to do it. He's got to go.

Ever since the vaunted 2022 class of offense lineman arrived, all we heard was a narrative about how good the offensive line was..............but was it EVER that good? Kelvin Banks was awesome but who else? In 2024, we had an experienced line and that is more valuable than people realize (aggies will probably prove that this year). But was it great? Hell no. They couldn't get push in short yardage / goal line situations and when they faced elite defensive lines (Georgia, Ohio State) they were clearly over matched. I've defended Flood on here before but the more I think about, I'm usually using draft picks to justify my defensive of him. He did produce draft picks, but was the on field product EVER that good as a whole? Sark is going to have to let Flood go after this season. I would love to be wrong but there is ZERO reason we can't have at least an average offensive line. This is coaching.

I kept my eyes on the offensive line last night and something popped up in my mind. Some of the Olineman seemed a little short in the torso and long in the legs. Maybe I'm just seeing things but when Cambell was running down the sidelines on a run play I noticed that he doesn't have that typical low center of gravity that's considered ideal for interior guys. Then I started looking at the line in general ................ That's often called being "Hi Cut". I see this term in NFL combine analysis and it's often considered a negative in run blocking. Also, when the Coleman brothers and Daniel Cruz got involved they actually seemed more torso/leg proportional than the starters did. Maybe I'm just reaching in an attempt to understand the lack of run game push. I'm open to being completely wrong here. Has anybody noticed that our lineman seemed a little hi cut?

4 starters from last year made NFL rosters. If that doesn't buy a coach a little more grace than this, I don't know what does.

My thoughts: DBs - Until we play a seasoned QB, we don't really know if our DBs have gelled and their communication is comparable to last year. OSU was protecting Sayin. He wasn't asked to scan the middle of the field and make a decision. LBs - Seemed assignment sound to me. I think we have a good group that's only going to get better. DLs - Very good overall against the runs. Didn't step up on goal line a short yardage situations but perhaps we've been a little spoiled from last year. I like our DTs and I think they are only going to get better as the coaching staff figures out the right combinations. EDGEs- I'm not sure. Sayin did very little dropping back and scanning the field. I'm going to assume we have a very good pass rush though. OSU pretty much conceded that to us via their scheme. Offensive Line - I am thrilled with our run game in general but as usual, once we are in obvious short yardage situations, something happens and I am baffled. Sark needs a short yardage consultant. RBs - Very impressive. Other teams aren't going to have the same defensive back field OSU had and are going to be forced to cheat their way up to the line of scrimmage. That will play into Arch's strengths. WRs TEs - I was surprised how little they got opened, but again, OSU's defensive backs are the strength of the team. So I'm not sure how I feel yet. I'm excited about Livingston though. Wingo needs to grow a little. QB - Ugh. IMO, Quinn Ewers had one strength and only one strength - hitting receivers in stride with short passes. Arch is inaccurate and puts way too much mustard on his short throws. He needs to calm the eff down and watch some film on Ewers. I'm not saying Ewers was a great QB (he had zero pocket presence, zero ability to improvise and couldn't throw a deep ball) but Arch HAS to improve on those short passes Sark designs to scheme WRs open. If he doesn't do that, we are going to get behind the chains way to often. I simply don't know what to think of Arch yet. I'm anywhere from "He'll learn from this and become a good QB" to "I hope KJ Lacy matures fast." I'm just shocked.

I spent 30 days at a Longhorn ranch a couple of years ago. It was there that I realized what "horns down" really means. If one of those bad boys suddenly bends his head down and shakes the horns, it's time to give him some space. Trust me people, a Longhorn staring at you with his horns up is way safer than one with his horns down. He's warning you. So keep throwing those "horns down" signs. People in the know are laughing at you!

Uh oh. They are replacing both starting DTs from last year anyway. This dude was a 5 star. Good luck young man! Heal fast (just wait until week 2 please) EDIT: I just read (from a headline of a different article) the injury is not serious. EDIT (of the edit): The headline said it wasn't serious but all the article provided was the coach said he doesn't have any information yet. I hate headlines sometimes.
