  1. If the Lakers would've had 2001 Kobe in the 1991 NBA Finals, they would have killed the Bulls. The reason: Magic and Kobe's defense.
  2. You could take Magic, Kobe, Worthy, Kareem and whomever you want and beat any combination of five other players in the history of the world. There's three reasons for that. The key is Magic couldn't be stopped at point. Kobe defending any perimeter you can think of and beating any player you want one on one. Kareem the best post player ever. None of this is combo crap. Magic running point. Kobe was a shooting guard who could defend any one else who was also skilled enough to score on any other wing in the history of the world. Kareem was the best post player ever. But Magic as a true point is literally the linchpin. I don't wanna hear no combo crap.
  3. I like Miller, but I didn't like his answer to Gerry's question about point guard play. Magic is universally recognized as the greatest PG ever. He wasn't traditional in the sense that was literally the biggest point guard to ever play, but he ran the team like a QB and didn't worry about shooting first. You can't be a PG and think you need to score before anyone else. Magic could score as well as anyone, but he didn't try to do it first. I hope Miller gets a true PG and doesn't fall into the BS of combo nonsense.

  5. I'll take Justified, too.
  6. Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again; but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? This is writing.
  7. Good writing? Living in the Twilight Zone.
  8. Good stuff. I met Larry McMurtry and Cormac McCarthy in San Marcos 2010 at the 25th anniversary conference for Blood Meridian. McMurtry lamented that Blood Meridian would outlast Lonesome Dove in the long run. I told McCarthy I thought he based Blood Meridian on Plato. He looked at me for about five seconds and said, "Well, yeah. No one has ever said that to me."
  9. My youngest daughter keeps asking me when Blood Meridian is coming out. I read the book with her five times from when she was ten to seventeen. I can't determine if it's really coming or not. I've read it's filmed and in the can. I've read it's maybe done. I've read it's nothing. My view is that it's extremely difficult to film. I don't know how you can do the book justice and put on film. I'd like to see an attempt, I hope it's good. Greatest novel in the history of America.
  10. Let's go greatest films. I'm a Western fan, so it's going to be all Westerns. Rio Bravo (1959) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) High Plains Drifter (1973) Unforgiven (1992) No Country for Old Men (2007)
  11. Northern Exposure, Seinfeld, Cheers, Deadwood. Disparity of twenty years, but it's all more than twenty years ago
  12. Why would an idiot like JR Smith talk to Kobe? Like Satan talking to Jesus.
  13. After listening to America Horse With no Name, I listened to Isaac Hayes Shaft. Both were from a radio station in Estelline, TX.
  14. Five day Camping trip Palo Duro Canyon May 1991 when I was 19. Pansies got nothing on me.
  15. Since I can't stand Cuban and Mavs fans, this is my all time favorite. Only player in NBA history to outscore an entire team through three quarters. This is why the Mavs will eternally suck ass.
  16. Mikey and Kobe is as good as it gets. These chumps today can't hold a candle. They literally have nothing in terms of work ethic, clutch play and pure balls.
  17. That again is true as far as it goes. Kobe was more skilled. He was a better shooter. He had a better handle. He had more post moves. He couldn't hold the ball as strong at the rim. That's the only thing that made Mikey better. But that was as big thing.
  18. "Based on historical performance and accolades, Kobe Bryant is often considered the greatest 22-year-old NBA player, having helped lead the Lakers to another title while demonstrating elite versatility and scoring in the 2000-01 season. Other top contenders for best 22-year-old include LeBron James (2007) and Tim Duncan (1999). " Mikey ain't listed. Now we got 25 year old pansies wanting to play college. This is why sports sucks now.
  19. Chumps are always gonna be chumps, especially when their coach is.
  20. True as far as it goes. Kobe never said publicly he was better than Michael. He almost certainly wasn't when you talk about the peak. Kobe did tell him he could kick his ass when he was 20 years old. I don't know of anything else similar. The thing is that there have been probably 40-50 players more physically gifted than Kobe as basketball players in the history of the world. There might be two or three that were actually better than him at his best. There weren't any who were tougher or worked harder. There weren't any more technically skilled.
  21. We saw why Bucky ball is gimmick ball. As I said before, you can't use gimmicks to beat real teams. Florida has a real frontcourt, and even though their starting guards can't shoot, they don't have to shoot well when the opposing coach thinks you can trot out a 6'5" center and use backcourt "pressure" to hang with one of the best frontcourts in the country.
  22. @Gerry Hamilton Is the poor post defense going to get us in the tournament? I know UConn can shoot it, but I haven't watched them to know if they can score in the post and force turnovers.
  23. The problem is that Kirby constantly spouts about "relationships," "discipline" and "doing things the right way." Truth is that he's not much different than Barry Switzer.
  24. I don't really think anything can compare to telling Michael Jordan you can kick his ass.
