    It's actually a pretty nuanced and interesting story re the power struggle at MADD that got her tossed out. She always claimed she wasn't against alcohol, but rather against drunk driving, that MADD was becoming neoprohibitionist. Thanks for reminding me of that history...

    I remember in the early 70's getting "Oaxacan Gold" was considered the creme de la creme. I wonder now if that wouldn't even register as anything special with what I hear are now insane levels of THC in today's weed.

    People love to make jokes and sometimes we make snide remarks, etc, but I actually think you are correct...in 20 years we may finally admit how bad it was, particularly for people younger than 25 years old (brain deveopment). I appreciate your comment and the probable courage it took to make it, knowing that so many of us will probably pooh pooh it. It's a hot button topic. I remember when MADD first formed and how much bad and derisive criticism those mothers received from the rest of us...we could drive in those days with open containers in our cars!! And we did!! We smoked in grocery stores and traffic courts and teachers' break rooms and offices and hospitals(!!)...you get the picture...it was crazy where we all smoked...and this was up into the early 90's! I'll be curious to see what happens in the future...

    I'm pretty sure that Lane and LSU are intentionally rebelling--it helps to foment an us-versus-them state "patriotic" fight against the big bad SEC trying to "run our lives". I really do believe it is calculated, to the end that it stirs up the passions and frenzy of the "loyal ones" while LSU could go unbeaten and could very well play for a national championship. They could go for undiluted, full-blown victim status--a David vs. Goliath that would galvanize SEC haters around LSU against bullying by the SEC. It never fails to amaze me at the lengths people will go just to get their way--doesn't matter to them the chaos and destruction that's left in their wake. I detest LSU right now for its selfishness, but that's just me...I understand where Lane is coming from, but it's an extremely parochial view...very sad.

    Mine was Jack Collins from the 1959 team that played national champion Syracuse in the Cotton Bowl. He played a great game in that loss to what was clearly a superior Syracuse team. I still remember the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football the following summer: "Jack Campbell--Texas' next All-American back?"

    I know what you mean, but I must correct my post above. Texas played TCU in the odd numbered years in Austin, so both of the upsets from '59 and '61 occured at home... By the way there are still quite a few of us from that era! ☺️

    As a 12 year old I was heartbroken about that loss to TCU in 1961 at Fort Worth. It was the second time in three years that TCU upset the previously unbeaten Longhorns. (the first was in 1959 at TCU's home field) It wasn't until 1963 that Texas would go undefeated and become undisputed national champions.

    Trey Moore was having a good camp and was expected to start the season as a Dolphins first team linebacker. He hurt his ankle in the first quarter and will be out indefinitely. Quinn Ewers was 1 for 8 with an interception... battling a groin injury.

    I remember him well, particularly as others have mentioned, he was from Wisconsin??? (very unusual) I know the story about sending Dodd his HS film is true, but I did not know that it was an aunt who sent it in. It's hard to convey how dominant the Texas wishbone was in those early years, and Jim Bertelsen was a big factor in that offense. Once Royal found Street to run it, followed by Eddie Phillips after Street graduated, it was a prolific offensive scheme.
