Serious question, but does an ultimatum end up working out? At the end of the day if you’re a head coach that can’t operate the team the way you want then how are you going to be successful? I think he has to willingly make the changes you mentioned or Texas should move on. People will say there aren’t better options, but you can’t keep doing the same thing each year and hope for the best. Not with the amount of NIL this program spends.
-
and....we STILL lost to them! 🙄
-
OL, OL, OL. Our OL is and has been a complete disgrace. We did have Banks and Cam Williams, but the only reason we got those two was because Cristobal took off for Miami last minute. Goolsby was a diamond in the rough 3 star guy that everyone missed. Us and A&M were his only 2 big offers. Without a functioning OL, all the weapons we have will continue to go to complete waste.
-
Which of these jobs is Banks qualified to keep at this point? Our TE room is dreary and our special teams unit is a national laughingstock.
-
Hire an OC you would want to be play caller if you couldn’t do it. Separate the job of Jeff Banks into two different divisions of labor. ST and TE. Figure out what’s wrong with the OL. If it’s coaching or just the fact that you need new blood, then make the call.
-
Two years in a row of his offense looking completely putrid so changes must be made.
-
This is Texas football. We play junior and senior starters mostly, at QB or any other position. The next year there is a crisis because we have no one with playing experience.
-
If he really believes that it's just asinine logic. I do think there is like a ~50% chance we just fire him and eat the buyout. And if he actually thinks what you and Hank are saying then that is probably exactly what goes down. But again, short of some kind of miracle run to finish the year, I'll be absolutely shocked if Sark is his own OC again in 2027. It will be either a new HC or new OC IMO.
-
I do agree with that part, too. As I watch freshmen contribute all over, we have juniors that are lost.
-
Based on what was said by hank at the top of this thread is what i am really starting to believe. Sark was hired here for his ability to call plays at bama, So getting an OC would be him waving the white flag that he failed. If i am him, But i am too stubborn, hard headed and unwilling to relinquish play calling duties gracefully find a way out through either a job in the NFL or resigning.
-
I don't get when you think we should have put him in? The score was 24-3 with 10 minutes left in the game. That would be insane to put Lacey in there. Then we scored and it was 31-3. After that Lacey came in.... To get to backups earlier we have to blow the other team out. That just didn't happen until the middle of Q4.
-
Sark as an OC is like Manny Diaz was when he was at Texas. The "play calls" might be good on paper but they are also absolutely delusional. The team has clearly demonstrated it cannot execute Sark's preferred offensive scheme for multiple years now. You can't call a play that we fail to execute 80% of the time and then act shocked when we screw it up yet again. You are right about a 24/7 OC, but we also need a new scheme that is easier for college players to execute. This scheme just plain sucks. Then it is poorly coached on top of that lol.
-
CDC won't can Sark with the buyout, plus there isn't a guaranteed better replacement, but I do think he would give him an ultimatum. He needs to replace the OL and special teams coaches and probably hire an OC. Look at our defense. They show what can be assembled when you have UT's resources playing in the SEC in big games every week. There is no excuse for us to not have one of the best OL's in football. Whether it's selection of the players, their development, or their scheme, that's all on Flood (and Sark). It's not Sark as a play caller that is the issue but rather that a team at this level deserves an OC that spends 24/7 coming up with ways to beat the next team's defense. Recruiting, fund raising, interviews, etc are too much.

Agreed. He got a mulligan for 2025. After 2026 there is absolutely no way he is allowed to come back and stink up DKR with his offense again in 2027. If he is back at all there will be a coordinator hire for sure.
-
Sarks mulligan was canning PK and hiring Muschamp because he insisted his offensive issues were because he was baby sitting the defense and could not focus on his offense.
-
You Are Sark...

He gave it up at USC to Clay Helton at one point so there is precedent. He also never said he’ll never give it up here. He said he wasn’t giving it up 15 minutes after we lost to OU in the middle of the season. There is a difference. If his options are give up playcalling or stop making $11 million a year, I’ll bet you which one he chooses. -
I definitely don't believe that. Sark had goodwill from two semifinal appearances and he got a mulligan for last year. Short of this team somehow winning out and making a run in the playoffs (😂🤣😂🤣😂) there is not going to be another mulligan.
-
where is Sark gonna go? 😂😂😂 I agree with you
-
He’s telling you they already gave him that ultimatum, Sark already refused once.
-
I don't doubt this might be Sark's preference but there is absolutely no chance the AD and boosters funding the NIL operation will accept this. If Sark is back it will be with an actual offensive coordinator being hired.

Injuries happen in football and this is what recruiting is for, improvise adapt overcome

Not Gerry but Texas has not offered -
That's ridiculous dude. There is very little chance Sark is the play caller next year. You have to be kidding me if you think CDC and those funding our NIL operation are going to sign up for another year of Sark's horrible coordination of the offense. If Sark keeps his job (fairly big if given we likely lose at least two more games), there will be a coordinator hired for sure.
-
Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, and countless others got head coaching jobs because they were elite coordinators, but understood that being a HC requires more than calling plays. Refusing to give up play calling when it’s clearly not working isn’t leadership, it’s ego getting in the way of what’s best for the program.
-
He’ll pin it on Arch and flush him out like they did Ewers. Then it’s off to the Lacey / Dia era with little change to the putrid multi year issues at OL and running game. Maybe Lacey or Dia help early on with their legs in 2027 before they get that coached out of them too. With no running game and no OL to count on we go on another frustrating September and October of inconsistent poorly managed football and eventually the roars from donors spending millions on the program grow louder than the ability to pin losses on quarterbacks. Sark resigns and Major Applewhite triumphantly returns to Austin as head coach with Muschamp as DC in the ironic twist of all ironic twists. Texas goes on to win back to back natties.
