Royal announcing 7/29, his birthday.

Who would bet even money he’s coming to Texas? I don’t know where he’s going but and I wouldn’t bet either way. -

FWIW, Greedy James setting a "commitment date" was different in that he told Texas he was flipping to LSU ahead of time. Royal is not talking to coaches. Everything in this post we made last week still stands imo. -

Whatever he announces, Texas will be just fine either way 🤘🏻 -
We’re 41 days away from kickoff, so today’s countdown looks at three Longhorns who made No. 41 memorable. Jay Arnold (1971–73) made the rare transition from defensive end to defensive back and thrived, earning consensus first-team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1973 after picking off four passes. He also helped Texas capture three straight SWC championships. Vance Bedford (1977–81) was one of the top defensive backs of his era. A two-time All-SWC selection, Bedford set a then-school record with 22 pass breakups in 1981 and finished his career with 47. He later returned to Austin as Texas’ defensive coordinator and secondary coach under Charlie Strong. George Blanch (1957–59) helped lead Texas into the Darrell Royal era, earning second-team All-SWC honors in 1958 before playing on the 1959 Southwest Conference championship team that finished No. 4 in the nation. He later went on to play professionally with the Oakland Raiders.

Guys, do not presume anything one way or the other. There have been those who have announced they were shutting it down and those who have said they are flipping. He’s clearly been torn on this for a while. Let him make his decision (or announce it) and don’t presuppose either way right now. We’ll keep you updated as appropriate.- 16 replies

If they are announcing, they are not committed. That is why i wanted us to get Sales so bad, it was pretty well clear LSU. -
PK was a good coach, but he always played not to loose. Muschamp is a championship level DC. He plays to win. You have to be willing to take calculated risks and put your players in the position to win.

Hoped for 2 5 star HS recruits in Sales and Royal...as of now 1 in the boat, but likely flipping so probably none. Texas will have a boatload of excess cash with Cam, Wingo, Arch, Simmons, and Goosby highly likely to go pro, so they will be able to keep the players on this roster that they want. With Sark and friends they will probably turn lemons into lemonade and find a gem none of us thought Texas had interest in. -
I think part of the reason is because the offensive struggles. PK's defense didn't have a high percentage of blitz's or stunts, so the offense didn't see it live in practice enough. This should help the offense start quicker and be more prepared for a team like Georgia.

Since he's already committed, the news will probably be a flip (my take). Oh, well...

I've made my opinion on the whole PK thing clear, so I won't rehash it. But in saying that, I am excited for Muschamp and to see what he can do. From all the talk I've heard about him and vaguely remember his last time here, it is exciting to hear the positives. But my question is, if PK can have one bad year and be fired, why does Flood get so much of a pass? His unit severely underperformed in 2025 and even in other seasons. Yet his job is secure? On top of that, what if the O still sees a lot of struggles in 2026? Who's to blame then? Who gets fired if that happens again? Anyway, I'm kind of over the off-season talk like a lot of you and want the season to start so we can see our Longhorns play. The schedule is going to be grueling but enjoyable to watch this year and I'm super excited for it.
