OTF Premium Texas Snap Counts vs. Ohio State (Sunday)
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
A look at the Texas snap counts vs. Ohio State on Saturday. *** Defense Out of 59 defensive snaps. 59 – Jelani McDonald, Michael Taaffe 55 – Malik Muhammad 54 – Anthony Hill Jr. 45 – Jaylon Guilbeau 39 – Liona Lefau 37 – Ethan Burke, Hero Kanu, Trey Moore 35 – Colin Simmons 30 – Maraad Watson 26 – Alex January 24 – Cole Brevard 21 – Ty'Anthony Smith 19 – Travis Shaw, Graceson Littleton 16 – Kobe Black 12 – Derek Williams Jr. 7 – Lance Jackson 6 – Zina Umeozulu 5 – Brad Spence 4 – Colton Vasek 3 – Xavier Filsiame, Justus Terry Texas only deployed 24 players on the defensive side of the ball in the season opener, right where I expected them to be. I did not expect to see 37 snaps from Hero Kanu, leading the way for the interior defensive linemen. 19 snaps for Graceson Littleton is a number that rivals Colin Simmons vs. Michigan and Anthony Hill vs. Alabama, a great sign for the frosh. *** Offense Out of 67 offensive snaps. 67 – Ryan Wingo, Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby, Arch Manning, DJ Campbell, Cole Hutson 65 – Parker Livingstone 60 – Jack Endries 56 – Connor Stroh 51 – DeAndre Moore 41 – Quintrevion Wisner 26 – CJ Baxter 19 – Spencer Shannon 11 – Neto Umeozulu 3 – Jordan Washington 2 – Daylan McCutcheon 1 – Nick Townsend Four tight ends saw time on the field. Only two running backs were on the field for the offense. With how often Texas was under center, I was surprised to not see any 2-back looks from Sarkisian. -

“Don’t talk down to people…” on a message board. Getting sanctimonious over perceived sanctimony. Brilliant! -

DeBoer was dumb enough to follow the undisputed GOAT, and, minus a great season, will probably be on the hot seat at the end of the year. Alabama fans have forgotten what it is to have a mortal football program like the rest of us. We sucked yesterday. It’s ok to say that. It’s not a crazy take. We score 7 points, and lost a game where Ohio State barely bothered to try to play offense. People suggesting that Sark might need to surrender the reins as a play caller are also not over the top. Particularly given that the guy who just beat him twice consecutively did just that. It’s been an ongoing topic of conversation for some time now. No, I haven’t joined that chorus yet. Overreacting would be calling for the firing of the entire staff or quitting on the season. People are people, all of these reactions are expected, and could be largely preprinted for them if anyone bothers to pay attention to message board behavior. We looked like microwaved dog turds on national tv ranked number one against a huge opponent after a preseason of hearing how good we are going to be. The reactions are expected. Don’t talk down to people for them just because they don’t fan like you do. -

They were National Championship worthy. -
Evaluate? Nah. Develop? Remains to be seen

Kanu and Shaw played well. Glad to have lots of capable bodies on the interior. January, Brevard, Watson all looked solid. Defense wins championships.

What high ground did you sense, ace? Some folks get a laugh out of people losing their minds over game one of a long season. And somehow you had to react to that, didn’t you? Were you being sanctimonious in your own right? Sure looks that way… -
They also made sure that Collin wasn’t going to be the superstar. Very quick passing. This is to be expected where teams are going to scheme around him

It's not sanctimonious or self-aggrandizing to say that claiming we suck or Sark needs to stop calling plays is an overreaction. That was a close game against a really good team on the road. If you were a Bama fan, you'd have reason to be really concerned. They were terrible in all facets of the game against a mediocre team. -

It is what it is anywhere sports matter to people who can post about it. Good take. Hookem. -
Its good this type of game happened in week 1 if it were to happen at all. A slice of humble pie to draw attention to the areas that need adjustments and improvements on top of the many positives that are easy to overlook when in the line of fire. I expect more leaders to step up and find a voice when dealing with conflict and for the team to rally and forge their own identity moving forward. There is a lot to learn from yesterday's battle but the sky is still the limit for this 2025 team.

And about your standard reply as well. Yes, it’s sanctimonious. A claiming of some fictional internet high ground because fanatics react emotionally to the thing they love. -

Fair enough but I'm not claiming a moral high ground. I just watched the game differently. How fans feel is how they feel. Some of the reactions from my POV are comical. -

So, complaining about or mocking overreactions is sanctimonious. Gotcha. -
Ohio State played with a deep safety or field crossing corner (Wingo deep shot) to prevent big passing plays. That helped our run game some. Arch just missed his intermediate and short passes. He seemed to rush throws once he made his decision. That hasn't happened before in his time on the field. Pretty confident he'll clean up his mechanical errors. He made some bigtime throws under pressure during the comeback attempt.

Standard post loss topics. A bunch of “Oh Noes. We suck!” Usually a suggestion or three that “We fire or reassign a coach.” Someone will bop in with a “…but how will this affect recruiting ?” thread. And, of course, you get sanctimonious threads like this one where someone claims moral high ground for “not overreacting.” It is what it is, and you can copy and paste most of the posts minus a few game specifics on any sports message board in America. -

Pass rush thoughts
Forrest J. replied to Quinncent McManning, Jr.'s topic in On Texas Football Forum
I’m cautious on the pass rush. We’ve really only seen it at a high level from Simmons. I have optimism that Burke will get better and better as the year goes on and he’ll probably end up around the 7-8 sacks mark. But outside of that it’s skepticism for me. Haven’t seen anything from anyone else outside of Vasek that gets me excited about the pass rush this year, and he hasn’t proven that he can stay on the field. I do think the pass rush will improve as this was the first game and against what may be the most talented oline we’ll face, but I’m not convinced that it will be elite or on par with last year’s pass rush. Just too many unknowns. Oline was encouraging to me. The pass pro was really good considering the opponent and hostile environment and the run blocking was decent to really good at times. Unfortunately, without any elite running backs this is what we are going to get in big time matchups. An elite running back would have had well over 100 yards yesterday. Wisner doesn’t have the burst and Baxter’s best asset is picking up blitzes. He’s not the runner we thought he’d be. Can’t wait to see the young guys over the next three weeks. -
Ethan Burke played really good. The dude is a problem for our opponents.

Re-watched the game late last night and both lines of scrimmage were really good. As for the defense, you had the two penalties that kept the first scoring drive alive and the big play to Tate. Those can be corrected, but they're also things that happen game to game. If you really think Arch will keep missing open throws, I don't know what to tell you. I'll take that defense and run game with Arch's talent every time.
