Somebody asked me why I would mention YMCA. Greatest pre-draft workout in the history of professional sports was performed by a 17 year old boy at Inglewood YMCA. -

I had the misfortune of playing across the line from him and getting double teamed the entire game by him. He was the offensive left guard and another guy (Jennings I think who later went to A&M) who was bigger than him at tackle. Was a long night. I did not contribute to his brain disorder I can assure you as I spent the evening crashing into the gap and falling down to plug the hole so as not to end up 10 yards down field.

Lou Holtz famously described his star Arkansas Razorbacks linebacker Billy Ray Smith Jr. by saying that Smith would spot the ball carrier, take the absolute shortest route to him, and "arrive there in a bad mood".

My issue is what @harveycmdsaid in a prior post. That question wasn't asked of Dusty May last year. Not Scheyer, Golden, Hurley, etc... in this summer's off season. That makes it a total BS question IMO. I do think Texas stepping up to compete with the big boys of college hoops will cause some of these moments and convos. I love it ... because Texas is going to be talked about in a totally different way nationally in hoops. -

My daughter's second favorite book is Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, which we read probably five times from the time she was nine to sixteen. Vietnam war movie Apocalypse Now is based on Heart of Darkness. Daughter's grandfather (my dad) served three tours in Vietnam (66-67, 69-70, 71-72) as a Navy Chief. They could only make you serve one tour. He volunteered for the last two. His primary job the last two tours was to navigate up river to deliver operators to different locations. My dad would watch Apocalypse Now with us while we read Heart of Darkness. He would always squirm during this scene for reasons I won't relay. -

Many teams have a tougher non-conference schedule. Most top 15 teams have a tougher non-conference schedule. I'd like for the Longhorns to play Illinois, Michigan, Duke, Saint John's, Houston, Arizona, Kansas. What goober boy Connecticut Norlander doesn't understand is that Mississippi State is twice as good as Rutgers, Seton Hall, Utah, Butler, Cal, Boston College and Washington. That's why Miller told him he doesn't need to schedule more hardcore non-conference games. -

I wore home 8. She wore road 24. It was in Longview, which takes about 45 minutes to get to. Listened to nothing but the man's fav Righteous Brothers on the way home. One of the Righteous Brothers songs we listened to was You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'. It was a bunch of early 20s women reacting to the song, which they'd never heard. I grew up listening to the Righteous Brothers on the radio when I was a kid in the 80s. My daughter is 21 and she grew up listening to the Righteous Brothers because I played it for her. She couldn't understand why they didn't know that You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin' is the most played song in the history of the world. Of course, she grew up reading The Odyssey and doesn't understand why people don't know that Odysseus is the greatest epic hero in the history of the world. -

Ya I didn’t think it’s was that bad I think the payroll question stems from miller saying a lot of teams would have a 20 million pay roll on the field of 68 a few weeks ago. I will say the non conference schedule discourse is odd and I wonder if it wouldn’t be a thing if we didn’t have the roster we have now. It’s like people wanted miller to predict the roster he was going to have a year in advance when he was scheduling the buy in games. I honestly haven’t seen many non conference schedule way harder than us all over the country. -

Norlander wouldn't have asked if they were good if they were buds or something like that. Norlander talked about going to Japan with Hurley. That's his love bud, not Miller. Sean told him he was wrong three times. By the way, Gerry, went to see The Odyssey with my daughter. Wore our jerseys. Listened to YMCA, Don't Stop Believin', Back in Black and Country Grammar on the way. -
Blinded by A&M’s cupcake 11-1 record last year. None of these people actually watched them against Texas or Miami (only teams with a pulse). And they’ve been listening to Gerry spouting about their NIL and roster talent🤣 I’m curious what A&Ms record would have been on Texas or OU’s schedule last year.

I did. Wife liked the look until we sat down for dinner. Something about Cowboy Caviar and permanency.

There are a lot of "ifs" on this list. How quickly does LSU take to buy in to Kiffins system, and how does Ole Miss fill the void for the guys that bailed and went to Louisiana are huge questions? Does Sellers have a reliable weapon or 2 and does the Oline hold up enough to keep him off his back? Miss St and a dynamic QB has the potential to jump up and steal a few wins in games they have no business being competitive in. UF and how much does the new staff get out of a talented roster? UGA is the stand alone 1, and Texas still has a lot of prove it with a rebuilt Oline and a new coord for the defense. Tenn Okla and ATM all have talent but there are still a lot of question marks. Ok has not produced at a high level on offense under the current staff and strength on one side of the ball os not enough in the SEC. Tenn has been so up and down that its hard to have high expectations and ATM has not fared well against teams that their roster talent should be blowing out. My dark horse to compete for an SEC champ is Missouri. Drinkwitz seems to always get the best out his roster. If they fare well in the first couple of games itll put everyone else on notice.Just a few opinions. Bama is another that jas a great coach but has underperformed the last few seasons. Vandy without Pavia and the grit and grime attitude is going to be back to what everyone expects Vandy to be. Inexperienced and short on weapons.

If Cruz and Cantwell had started this process in a collaborative manner, we would have settled these issues long ago. Instead they, Cantwell especially, were entirely focused on vilifying and punishing the sec/b1g. Now it’s too late. Oh well. The sec will be fine. -
Agreed @Bobby Burton - feel free to copy and paste OTF family. Great post @Gerry Hamilton to debate on! Here's my Tier's Tier 1 - Georgia Tier 2 - Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M(can QB Reed eliminate TO's?), LSU (Kiffin factor and portal adds), Ole Miss (can Pete Golding hold the ship together?) Tier 3 - Alabama (need an answer at QB and DL), Tennessee (same here with QB and defensive question marks), Florida (sleeper team) Tier 4 - South Carolina, Missouri, Auburn Tier 5 - Mississippi State, Vanderbilt (post Pavia era), Kentucky, Arkansas

I kinda enjoyed the interview honestly. Speculation, but it seems that Norlander and Miller are pretty comfortable around each other, so maybe Norlander felt empowered to ask some more direct questions. I enjoyed seeing Sean respond, push back, and show some personality that he doesn’t typically show in these public appearances. I thought he crushed it. The non-conference schedule criticism isn’t really warranted IMO, but it was great to hear Sean’s responses. -

I don’t see this getting to Thune today. The SEC/Big10 will have revisions no need to rush through this - if Cruz thought he had the votes, this bill would have been on Thune’s desk already. He need the Big10/SEC to sign off on the bill. If there is anything in there that is fluff - pass and have them start over. -
I went to school with Russell Patterson, a Plano product who ended up getting injured and being a medical redshirt. He told me a cool story about Billy Ray Smith. Russell told me when he was growing up playing youth football, he’d go to Plano High games on Friday night. When Smith was playing and the defense needed a stop, sometimes the crowd would start chanting, “Billy Ray, Billy Ray, Billy Ray” in unison.

Maybe, I’ll be proven wrong. But I don’t see how anyone can put A&M in tier 2 instead of tier 3. And, IMO, Georgia should probably be alone in tier 1 until proven otherwise.
