  1. Past hour
  2. One of those runs was charged to Volantis, who now has a 1.94 ERA on the season.
  3. Ideally for me tomorrow, I’d like to see the combo of Ruger, Burns, Leffew, Crossland, and Cozart close it out.
  4. Hamilton allows a single and a double. The shutout is over. It's a 15-2 lead for the Longhorns.
  5. After 6.1 innings and 91 pitches, Volantis exits with a runner on first and one out. Hudson Hamilton is the first man out of the bullpen tonight for the Longhorns.
  6. Tarleton will have seen Volantis and UCSB has a season's worth of information on him, so the scouting component isn't a big deal. Personally, I think this is more about Schloss and Weiner hedging against Ruger's shoulder not being up to snuff tomorrow and needing to use more bullpen arms if Riojas can't go deep.
  7. Sure, 84 ‘low‑stress’ pitches is fine - I’m not saying the guy is out there suffering. I just didn’t expect them to let him chew through that many in a 13–0 game. At some point it’s less about saving the bullpen and more about ‘why are we giving the entire regional a full scouting report on him tonight.’ But hey, if he’s truly shelved until Monday, I guess they’re comfortable letting him rack up the cardio.
  8. I thought they might pull him after 90 pitches if he has to go on short rest next week in the opener
  9. Tarleton hasn't had a runner reach third base against Volantis tonight.
  10. The inning ends on a groundout back to the mound. Volantis is coming back out for the bottom of the seventh.
  11. The Texas single-game school record is 24, FWIW.
  12. It's first and third with two outs for Becerra after Gumbo legs one out, avoiding an inning-ending double play.
  13. What is the record for walks given up in a regional? Dang
  14. And Volantis has thrown 84 relatively low-stress pitches.
  15. I thought that was for sure getting down for a hit. Maybe the catch of the year.
  16. Up 15-0, Pendergrass puts his body on the line to make an excellent play. I love that.
  17. A nice defensive play by Becerra on a ball back up the middle helps Volantis put together a 1-2-3 sixth. At 84 pitches, that should be it for Volantis.
  18. His pitch count has past the point of being able to pitch the rest of the weekend so save your arms for tomorrow and possibly Monday. With Ruger and his shoulder tomorrow might be a shorter outing for him. Having all the pen arms available would be a good thing.
