By Yanyan Li UPDATED Jun 08, 2026 | 06:22 pm Brett Rojo-Imagn Images Game 2 of the 2026 Women’s College World Series championship series, where Texas defeated Texas Tech 4–1 to clinch its second consecutive national championship, was the most-watched college softball game on record. The game averaged 2.5 million viewers on ESPN, surpassing last year’s Texas-Texas Tech Game 3 that averaged 2.4 million. This year’s in-state battle also peaked at 3 million viewers compared to a peak of 2.7 million in 2025. Previously, the average viewership record stood at 2.3 million, set during the 2007 Game 3 between Arizona and Tennessee. Meanwhile, Texas-Texas Tech Game 1 averaged 1.9 million viewers and peaked at 2.1 million, which according to ESPN is the third most-watched championship series Game 1 ever, but down from 2025’s Game 1. That game likely took a ratings hit from overlapping with Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which drew the highest viewership for the event since 2019 (though this year’s WCWS Game 2 overlapped with Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals). Overall, the 2026 championship series averaged 2.2 million viewers, becoming the second-most watched WCWS finals ever per ESPN—just behind 2025 (which also averaged 2.2 million). The viewership for the championship series follows the trend of strong ratings for the WCWS overall. Driven largely by Texas Tech games, this year’s WCWS recorded the second through fifth most-watched non-finals tournament matches, with three of those featuring the Red Raiders. Overall, the tournament averaged 1.5 million viewers before the championship series. Viewership for NCAA women’s spring sports championships has been strong overall on ESPN. Northwestern’s win over North Carolina in this year’s women’s lacrosse national title game averaged 470,000 views, the sport’s most-watched game on record. The WCWS outperformed college baseball’s Men’s College World Series, which kicks off June 12, in average viewership last year. Though the MCWS drew better ratings for its championship series (2.5 million vs. the WCWS’s 2.2 million in 2025), the WCWS averaged 1.3 million viewers compared to the MCWS’s 1.2 million throughout the tournament.

I'm certainly not a lawyer lol So I have no idea if it could happen, but if I was Cincinnati, Colorado or Oklahoma State, I'm filing an injunction to keep Sorsby from playing in these three states in 2026 If they win, then does Texas Tech want to play musical chairs all season with their QB? Maybe, but it lessens their chances of winning

Cody and Tech just sank his Protect College Sports Act. No one in congress will take his phone calls, texts or emails. -
I agree

Use the same irreparable damage to integrity of game for any OOS game Tech plays.
-
The problem is they’ll find another judge to cancel it out. That’s the world we live in.

According to most, Tech bound ever since ou got bounced.

lol, you folks are funny. If this happened 5 years ago, all of this crowd would be saying "Tech belongs in the SEC with all the other cheaters". This kind of thing has always happened, but we did not have the internet and it was always swept under the rug. Sports is so much cleaner now than it used to be. There is far less cheating because we live in a world where anybody can be a reporter and social media is listening. Nobody should be surprised that Texas Tech is fighting to get their star QB on the field. This is also backfiring in the most glorious way. I hope BS plays. I hope they are forced to vacate all of their games. College football will be better for it. -

Kristen Zaleski Not Returning to Texas Coaching Staff. Probably taking a HC opportunity?

Did not think I would ever see the death penalty again . But also did not think I would ever see any school stoop this low. They deserve it. Cancer on college sports.

……get an injunction against Chambliss playing against us. If he and Ole Miss beat us our players would be irreparably damaged.😳

Oklahoma outfielder Kasidi Pickering has entered the transfer portal. Pickering is in the portal with a Do Not Contact designation, a source confirmed to D1Softball. An All-American in 2025, Pickering was also a member of the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team in 2024 and a D1Softball Freshman All-American that same year. During her three years at OU, she posted a .384 batting average with 50 home runs, 169 RBIs, 169 runs scored, 35 doubles, and 11 stolen bases. She also owns a .972 career fielding percentage. A native of Humble, Texas, Pickering played high school ball for Atascocita High School and travel ball for Nathan Nelson’s Hotshots organization.

That would be justice and hilarious, but wait until they spend all their NIL and do it in the of season.

Should anyone be surprised? Billionaires run government. I can guess who funded this Judge in the past. NCAA should rule now that Tech is not eligible for post season tournament if Sorsby plays a game. Every High School football coach with integrity should ban Tech from entering their school. They can buy their way out thru courts but that doesn’t mean it’s right. Texas coaches can show Tech what they think about Joey. Get the kid help. That’s what a good coach does, but let him know his playing future is not happening at Tech -

The point is right and wrong, not legality. Tech did nothing illegal, Sorbsy did. That, however, doesn’t mean they are doing the right thing by challenging the NCAA ruling. And most believe that their actions, while legal, are wrong. -
