Yeah, I get what you’re saying - the Landry/LSU mess is its own little fiefdom. That’s Baton Rouge politics doing Baton Rouge things. But that’s exactly why I don’t treat it like some grand driver of the national playoff structure. It’s a local power play, not a steering wheel for the sport. The playoff expansion fight is being pushed by the conferences and media money. The LSU situation is being pushed by a governor who saw a soft target and a chance to flex. Those are two totally different engines. Louisiana politics didn’t create the 24‑team bracket. Louisiana politics just reminded everyone how chaotic things get when a state leader decides the athletic department is his personal stage. And yeah --- the money is always lurking in the background - but it’s coming from different directions. ESPN and the Big Ten/SEC are chasing national revenue. Landry is chasing local political capital. One affects the entire sport; the other affects one campus and one fanbase.

He has a talent advantage at Colorado and has them rolling backwards. He wouldn't do anything better at FSU.

SMU is the only FBS or NFL team in the last 30 years to have: -3 or worse turnover margin twice as many penalties as their opponent fewer rushing yards than their opponent lower TOP than their opponent more missed FG than their opponent ...and yet still win the game. yo

We could be looking at a 24-team playoff

12 no good. 16 my preference, but ok with 24. Big opening weekend games will come back, maybe even increase. Teams won’t be so after if that once loss in non conference and out of playoffs. Good with deleting conference championship games . -
LSU is a sh*t show and Lane Kiffin is the cherry on top.
-
I'd argue the LSU situation with the Governor basically taking over the LSU athletic department is not closely related to playoff expansion. Landry saw a way to increase his political capital, and knew he could get away with it in the state that is more corrupt than Tammany Hall because it's always had the lowest rated education system in the country. No doubt the political side is also financially motivated in the end, but the money comes from different places.

Yeah, I hear you --- once politicians start poking around in college athletics, everything gets messier. But the playoff expansion stuff is still being driven by ESPN and the conferences chasing bigger payouts. The Louisiana circus didn’t create the 24‑team bracket; it just showed how chaotic things can get when outside forces jump in. The money is what’s steering the ship here, not Baton Rouge.
-
This is what happens when political leaders get involved with college athletics. It's a no lose battle for the politicos because they get votes regardless of the outcome for "sticking up" for the "team." Of course, it could only happen in Louisiana. The state of Louisiana should invest in literacy rather than LSU athletics. It won't happen because corruption is most definitely profitable on the bayou.

Yeah, I’m with a lot of you here ---- 24 is just ESPN shaking the money tree. It nukes conference title games, waters down the field, and turns November into glorified seeding. Sixteen is the sweet spot: real stakes, real games, real atmospheres. Anything past that is just TV executives playing bracket‑builder. -
Totally with you on this. LSU handed the SEC exactly what it needed, and now Sankey’s just cashing the check. The 21‑day response window, Kiffin getting named, LSU blinking - all of it lines up with the SEC tightening the screws and using this as their precedent case. LSU thought they were playing chicken, but the league wasn’t swerving.

USC isn't going to let him go. Riley has a good offensive scheme. There is really no reason for him to portal. -

My biggest question is what's the timeframe and do the bowls figure in as early as the second weekend in December? -
John Pinette. The funniest football skit has to be Bob Nelson at Daingerfield's

I have listened to or read everything I can about OSU-Texas. Almost everyone cites what happened last year and how things haven't changed. Whether its how Texas dealt with the pressure of last years contest or the talent of last years Ohio St defense and how it carries over to this year. I feel that Texas has made the necessary changes to erase any history between these two teams. Primarily the offensive talent and Arch being a year more seasoned and the amount of defensive players OSU lost to the draft.

Sankey basically gave in to 24 . Big 10 wasn't gonna agree to 16. Just get ready it's a done deal. ESPN still gets the first shot to keep it. Before it is opened up to bids. Pretty sure ESPN is ready to pay whatever to keep it. But again things change on a dime. -
