Kyle Flood has got to go
TexasLonghorns replied to Burt Reynolds Jr's topic in On Texas Football Forum
If you worked for Harbaugh for that long as an OL coach, I’d wager he’s good. Didn’t make much difference last week though, granted no idea how much of a voice he has or how much he can change in a few weeks. Can’t hurt having someone on staff with his experience. -

Being reported that Tim Drevno was hired as a consultant to help OL on 9/11 🤔. Has ties to Sark from USC worked under Harbaugh has a decent resume other places. Next OL coach in waiting or... Interesting very interesting!

Alright obviously something needs to change and needs to change fast. I don’t know what the solution will be and how good of a solution we will see come Saturday but there has to be something positive coming out of it. I mean even if the running backs as a whole manage to get 60 plus yards Saturday, which is still pretty pitiful, it will be an improvement that needs to happen. I don’t know if they change personnel or if that’s even the problem with the line. They just look like they don’t give a rats ass to be physical. I don’t know if this game was a fluke because there has been some signs of life in our line, but if memory serves correct I remember Cole Hutson and DJ Campbell bullying the Alabama front in there sophomore seasons. Where did that fire and intensity go? Those two should be the undoubtedly the BEST we have right now on the line and I’m not saying they aren’t because half the time I see Hutson on someone or on the ground by himself and Campbell trying to fight someone down the field. So they still have that fire in them without a doubt but they need to translate that to their younger teammates on the line especially the Left Guard position which still remains the BIGGEST AND MOST promblematic position of this offensive. I honestly feel once they get that problem solved and I hope it’s fast, the offense WILL be better. Now onto the running backs. No one can create space for themselves. I know it is a banged up room right now and inexperienced and the line isn’t helping at all with those problems, but I know for a fact these players are too talented to not be patient enough to hit holes and just run outside to traffic. Again I do think most of the run games problems are to do with line play but it is still not nowhere near acceptable for Texas’ standard. Hopefully we see signs of life and emotion against OU, and I truly think we will. These players are too damn talented not too. Hook’Em!

Always a good show … Coach Irwin has said it over and over about the importance of Special Team. But for this season and last season, we have been poor/bad/crappy, etc. I think we were good in 2023 when we had the former NFL special team analyst (can’t remember his name) help coach the unit. You gotta ask the question is Jeff Banks a below average coach. One bad year happens … 2 becomes a trend

Despite all the problems, our team still had a chance to come back until late in the game. They kept fighting & never gave up. Arch tried to make things happen after being hit on almost every down.

I’m with you all the way . I find most of the TV journalists bashing our coach & players disgusting. Even some of our moderators questioning our coaching & players. Even our fan base . (so called fan base) talking nonsense. Doing nothing but hurting our team .

We need to run some screen passes where you are not required to block the D linemen. There. That's positive. I really hope to see one or two or three of the O linemen to step up and show some fiery leadership.

Since it is pointless to point out that we should have gotten OL in the portal, to fire Flood, hire Pittman, etc, I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on who we have and what the ceiling can be. We've seen the floor and it's ugly. I know a big question is physicality, though part of this is mental and part of this is in-born to the players that we recruited. What has been more concerning to me is that the current OL's inability to play assignment sound football, which allows these simulated fronts with 4 down linemen to get home easily with zero resistance. In no particular order: 1) Goosby isn't the plug and play guy we thought at LT. Does he still have the same ceiling? WIth a full year of starting will we see a guy that can get drafted in the first 3 rounds of the 2027 draft? 2) What can we do at LG? Stroh's feet are simply not good enough to start, and I hate to say it as he is a good kid and has done everything the coaches have asked. Neto must have real problems to not be able to start over Stroh. Is moving Hutson to LG the best option at this point? I don't see any other good option? This is assuming Kibble, despite the positive offseason reports, is completely unready and would give us a performance like we got from Brooks this past weekend. 3) At center, do we need to just go with Robertson? Cruz would be that has more physicality and we could use that, but I'm assuming he isn't ready to call the plays? 4) DJ Campbell pretty much is who he is.. does he have any more room for growth this year? He was the best of a terrible bunch this past weekend. He theoretically should be the most physical guy on the line and the leader of the line, and I have yet to see this leadership. 5) Are we expecting too much from Baker, in his 2nd year and in his 5th start? He seemed to do better in my eyes than in previous games.. the holding can on the wisner run didn't seem to be his call if the run was going the wrong way 6) Should Brooks be training just at one position? He was unfairly thrown in the fire, and I'd be shocked to see him at LG next week. If he is, Flood should really be fired.. I felt bad for the kid 7) Can the TEs help at all? I'm assuming we're going 12 personel more. Aside from Townsend none of lit it up blocking, and even he has whiffed on some blocks given his inexperience. Thoughts?

Why would I hijack this thread? The team is doing great, sark seems like he has it figured out and arch manning has really turned the corner!
