OTF Premium Texas basketball 2026-27 season thread
SL Xpress replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
They're part of the history of our program. My experience as a fan is in part defined by the head coaches who have coached our athletic squads. I'm liable to bring up Black, Lemons, Wetlich, Penders, or Barnes, as well. And certainly Smart, who managed to exceed Wetlich as a complete disaster of a hire. Same in football. Royal, Akers, McWilliams, Mackovic, Brown, Strong, Herman, and now Sarkisian, plus whoever comes next. They're all a part of it. I'm hopeful we're about to enter the sort of golden age we experienced in the 2000s. I thought that was going to last until I died. But it didn't. I'd love to see us put together a string of Sweet 16s and better. We'll see. -

That's idiotic. What are you supposed to do? You have to cover the team. And frankly, you've always liked Rodney Terry. I LIKE Rodney Terry. But you can't come out and say you don't think he'll be a good coach after he's been hired. I can say, just for the record, that Gerry has always felt like Sean Miller would be a great hire. Even the first go around when Terry got the job, he liked Sean Miller. That's not to cast aspersions on Terry. Gerry simply thought Miller would be a good fit. So far it's looking like he was right. -
OK go back to sleep. LOL

Miami Potentially Going Independent?
Hornmatic replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
There is a rich tradition of independents in cfb. Everyone was independent at one point and more schools should go back. Miami, Florida St, Penn St, BYU, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech were all independent into the 90s. -

Putting all our hope into Sark becoming a different coach seems like a fairly significant point in his tenure. -

Cautiously optimistic for no reason other than CFB makes no sense this season. -

I’m optimistic about all these losses compiling may compel some change in coaching after this season. I’m not rooting against Texas but, I am rooting against Sark right now. - Today

If the defense can get some turnovers and give the offense a short field, then Texas has a solid chance to win.

Conferences suck. There should be more independents. -

That’s interesting analysis considering the Texas offense rarely runs any true RPOs. -

I don’t have any expectations honestly. I feel like I’m back in pre 2023 where if we win I’ll be happy, if not it is what it is lol -

Lots of scenarios possible but, for some reason, I will go with the Texas wins easily one. Cooper has the most carrys and averages over 5. Arch, runs. -

Not much faith on the O or special teams since it appears sark is making not real changes. Good thing arch has had a good week of practice since that hasnt been the trend lol. -
I am more interested in what happens if it’s a blowout on the home field. CDC, quarterback, Sark and a dozen other things are going to get white hot.

More gaming the system. The SEC and Big 10 should just make the power move. -

Preseason rankings don't matter. I just want to see us find our identity and rotations earlier than last year. We have the shooting and athleticism. We just need to develop all of their toughness that will translate into stronger defense and rebounding. We'll be scary by midseason. -

The Protect College Sports Act requires a school to be independent for a few years if they choose to leave their conference for another conference. This seems like an anticipatory step. In addition, there’s a school of thought that the top revenue generating schools in the most top-heavy P4 conferences would be better off as independents instead of subsidizing the lesser schools of their conferences. If multiple high revenue schools from multiple P4 conferences were to go this route, then Independent scheduling issues go away.
