It's hard to be physical playing in a zone-blocking scheme where you never put your hand on the ground and fire off the snap with your pads low. My biggest gripe is how bad they look in double and triple teams. They would execute the first part ok, but then let delayed blitzers and looping DLs run right by them to make a sack or tackle. Flood's OLs have been bad about that since he got to UT in 2021. If I were Sark, that would be enough for me to make a switch, but he seems to love Flood and protects him.

My 2026 Preseason All-SEC 1st Team Ballot
CJ Vogel replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The hope is it definitely changes at the quarterback position. If everything goes well, Arch Manning is QB1 in the conference. I could definitely see Tennessee RB DeSean Bishop putting up major numbers in that offense to get into the conversation at the end of the season. -

Was tough not including Jelani McDonald given the expectations around the program for him, but Bolden and Hubbard definitely deserve the 1st team mention. -

Great list 🫡🫡 -
The All-SEC teams will release here shortly, but wanted to display the ballot I submitted this weekend in Tampa. Feel free to ask me about selections, or just let me know if you disagree!

Yes, we are definitely looking at things differently. Our defense was rated nationally much higher in every measurable category than our offense. Those stats don't lie. I'm looking at the entire season as a whole, not individual in-game failures. Yes, the defense had some busts from time to time in coverage and running lanes that were frustrating, but overall those were minimal compared to the offense. Most would argue that in this age of no targeting and constant PIs with high-powered up-tempo RPO offenses, a solid bend-and-not-break defense like PK's is not a bad thing to have. It keeps your offense in the game, but your offense has to contribute and keep scoring and eating the clock. Sark's didn't do that last year for most of the season. I thought the UM game was the first time the offense truly complemented the defense all year. I think Sark was looking at a season where they were number one and missed the playoffs. When he analyzed things, he decided some change was necessary. Since he knew he was the offense and wasn't going anywhere, the only change that could be made was defensively. And, having come from Bama with Saban's style of defense on his mind, and having played Kirby and UGA many times and experiencing the aggressive Kirby-ball firsthand, I think he just decided to try something new. He probably reached out to Muschamp and found he was interested, and then it became an easy decision. I don't think we will see overall a whole lot better defense this year than we saw last year, but I think we will be better as a team because our offense will be a little more consistent in maintaining drives and scoring TDs in the red zone. Sark wants complementary football. I hope the offense does its part and he finally gets it.

I always wondered how the recruiting services got it so wrong with Goosby and his 3 star ranking but it makes sense now because I didn't know his open-heart surgery was when he was 16. I'm sure he missed a lot of high school ball so there must not have been much film. Don't know how I missed that when he was recruited. Awesome story though. He was destined to be a success regardless of what he did.

You can only have 15 players on a roster at a time in college basketball. With the addition of Marcus Spears Jr., all 15 of those spots are occupied at Texas now, so Pope and Weaver, if they win their cases, will be playing for different teams this college basketball season. - Today

It’s clear we’re viewing the game differently. I’m looking at in gameplay calling in situations and how the defense is aligned, allowing extended drives because of poor defensive alignment, lack of pressure on the quarterback when you have the opponent backed up on the their goal line for example, those continuous 8 to 12 play drives didn’t need to happen. How how many 3rd & longs were converted into first downs or fourth and short? And I haven’t even touched on the poor communication between the front and backend that PK struggled with as a DC. PK was a good DC, he just wasn’t elite.

Have you heard anything about Jordan Pope's appeal and is Texas interested (do we even have room)? -
I just got through watching the entire season on ESPNU, and looking back on the entire season, our defense was by far the best and most consistent part of our team. Sark always liked complementary football, so how much did the turnovers and all the quick punts hurt the defense? Against Vandy and Miss State, Taffe was out, and in the first quarter of the Vandy game, Jalani McDonald dislocated his thumb and was out the rest of the game. We were playing with backups at safety, and Gillbeaux at corner was a liability as well. Those were not the DC's fault. Just bad luck and what he had left to work with.
