  1. Past hour
  2. As you indicated, there's a difference in sports recruitment and regular student population.
  3. Really? My twin granddaughters are top students and not athletes and they are enjoying visiting colleges that have invited them to visit - on their mother's dime. If "ordinary" top students being wooed love visits enough to get family to pay for them why shouldn't great athletes enjoy the process even more - with all expenses paid, and steak dinners, and promises of lucrative employment. At one flagship university's business school in the midwest the granddaughter who wants desperately to go to McCombs but knows how competitive it is to get in was greeted with a giant TV screen in the lobby displaying a banner of personal welcome to her. That was great for her but athletes get an order of magnitude more attention. Would you deny your kid that satisfaction? I would be suspicious of the manipulations that kept a student - athlete from loving the one chance in life to visit major universities around the country that actually wanted him or her to play there so badly that they would spring for the visit.
  4. It’s as if we just threw together a bunch of random players with decent stats from other teams
  5. so arch comes back for his senior year?
  6. Because Atwood was on deck I think, the switch in the lineup helps Katie out a lot. Basically have to pick your poison.
  7. I can see Texas with 7 picks in the first 3 rounds Four first round McDonald, Mascoe and Biles in 2 & 3
  8. Today
  9. Always wary of kids who "enjoy the recruiting process." When you hear that, you know they're more interested in fluff than substance.
  10. I don’t believe we have a chance of keeping Royal . Kiffen is on him like bees on honey. He he’s getting pressure from every direction. Seems to be enjoying the chase . Great player, starting to doubt his commitment. Guess we will see. Hope I’m wrong, but he’s visiting LSU so many times you would think he’s already a student there.
  11. At least it’s not A&M or BlowU
  12. Back……back…….back……
  13. They can, but it's not looking good. They seem to think they can flip the switch and decide when to play. As it stands now, we're in for at least one stinker a week.
  14. Vic is doing a great job for us. Like all fan bases, it amazes me how many band wagon riding fans start attacking players and coaches after a loss. I love our program and will wait and see how it goes next year. We have a great class coming in . Will be young but quoting Coach Royal, if a dog is going to bite you, it will do it as a pup. Bob Knight would not have shut down Alford or Thomas. You don't shut down your best players. Booker had carried us all year and got us there. Dance with the one that brung you. Another Royal quote. We came really close to winning it all with Maddy having worst game of her life. Hook Em
  15. @Jeff Howe Who on the staff is responsible for outfield defense?
  16. I am rooting for this dude! If he makes the team, he will become a fan favorite!
  17. Great point made. No he wouldn't have!
  18. If you don't show the team that you are willing to hold your "favorites" to the same performance standard, then the team isn't likely to take it well. Do you think Knight would have let Isaiah Thomas or Steve Alford shoot 3-23 in a Final Four?
  19. How do you know that Knight didn't have favorites? Have you seen his interviews? He had favorites dude. They all do. It's human nature.
  20. The team and Vic are the reasons we made the Final Four, not Booker alone. I don't know that Bobby Knight is a comparison here. First, he was a great coach in the 1970s and 1980s. That won't matter to contemporary players. Secondly, Knight was never accused of having different standards for different players.
  21. When I was getting my doctorate at UT, he had a class next to mine. We would chat it up every time. He was very shy, but kind. He was like one big muscle. I couldn't imagine tackling him. We are both from California, so that was our connection.
  22. Katie Stewart hits bombs! The girl has power. Why even pitch to her?
  23. Here we go again. Vic definitely has a stubborn streak. Most head coaches are control freaks. Remember Bobby Knight? Anyway, it's easy for players to think coaches favor others more than them. Why? Because it's true. They reward effort, skill, body language, defense, hustle, etc. See Coach Vic's love for Rori. Booker is the reason we made the final four so he rode her all the way even when she shot horrible against UCLA, as did Jordan Lee. Players on the bench saw just what we did. Parents of those girls were all thinking why is she still shooting? Vic loves Booker. Carlton never got the Booker treatment. Old school coaches who win aren't going to change. Period. Either the girls on his team give 100% effort 24/7 or they will eventually portal out. Vic isn't going anywhere. The only portal transfer that bothers me is Jordan Lee. She was among his favorites. She's joining a loaded South Carolina team where getting minutes will be a challenge. She obviously left for the bag. Sad. I think she made a mistake.
