  1. Past hour
  2. Maybe we nab him after a year. We do great on portal WRs.
  3. You don’t think the Texas staff had more information and feel for his recruitment than you?
  4. Please remind me which next 12 star, once in a generation, wide receiver has actually been that. Everyone says osu guy is great but even he hasn’t had consistent game altering impact. TGCGT period. You’ll always recruit skill positions that are good enough to win it all at a place like Texas. We need banks talent, not worthy, wanting to come here if we have to choose.
  5. Hope he heals well and fully. I keep hearing about the great potential but nothing has flashed on the field for me. I read about his speed and edge but haven’t seen it yet when he’s played.
  6. Today
  7. Doesn't A&M also have the top recruit in the country committed? Morris is building a strong program over there. I think Texas middle blocking recruiting has fallen off since Sullivan moved on to be USA coach. Since the recruitment of Harvey, Texas has lost more high level MBs than they've signed, or that's just my imagination.
  8. Nebraska middle blocker commit 6'4 Kendall Omoyuri from Los Angeles, CA just decommitted from the Cornhuskers and committed to A&M. Rated as the #2 prospect in the country. It is frustrating that Texas can't sign an elite middle blocker since Taylor Harvey. I am bothered by this. I was bothered when we lost the recruitment in the first place, and now even more bothered that she switches to A&M, who has been stockpiling middle blockers like crazy over the last couple of classes. She's crediting a new found faith as a big reason for the switch. For those who don't know, switches in volleyball recruiting are extremely rare. Nebraska has now suffered a couple of pretty big blows with late switches in Ames a couple of years ago and now Omoyuri. Let me cry some crocodile tears. I hope they're able to find a way to somehow compete with a full lineup of national team members.
  9. I think they really want Johnson to prioritize scoring. Not necessarily over facilitating, but not to its detriment, either. Both Miller and Johnson have mentioned that in the offseason. I don't think Miller sees Johnson as the only player on the team to facilitate. You can see Goosby playing a Swain-lite type role, where he's a fundamental facilitator even if he's not necessarily the main person bringing the ball up the court all game long. Matas looks to me like he's going to be able to be attacked defensively. I don't think significant improvement was ever a realistic possibility, but even incremental improvement is good. The nice thing is I believe the other 4 players on the floor with him are going to be much more athletic with more length than what he had last year. Simply having Punch and Spears at the 4 is a massive improvement. This team is not going to be a shut down defensive team. Their strengths are on the offensive end, and simply scoring at a rate that other teams are going to find tough to match. Frankly, similar to last year, but in different ways, with a better defensive presence and a more balanced offensive approach, with a lot more quickness and attacking. But the same kind of offensive efficiency.
  10. Forgot to add that Sterling has looked much better than I expected. Had doubts about the release point of his shot. Doesn't look like it's going to be an issue. Truthfully, he's been our third best offensive player after Matas and Isaiah Johnson. He can shoot the cover off the ball, and he's not bad defensively. Bring him off a pin down, put him in a split or staggered screen and he'll be able to score like gangbusters with that shot.
  11. I'll mitigate some of my combo guard criticism and admit Austin Goosby has looked good as a playmaker. Like to see more facilitating from Johnson, however. Questions will remain about their overall ball handling until they face higher lever competition. They'll have good tests against Baylor, UCLA (potentially), Miami and Louisville before conference play. When it comes to post play, haven't seen that Matas has made significant improvement defensively in terms of moving his feet and playing vertically without fouling. It's still early, so maybe it's coming.
  12. Sark doesn't exactly have a good hit rate on his HS recruited WR's. So it doesn't really bother me. My uneducated guess is they go to the portal again next year.
  13. The young man has such great potential but he just can't get and stay healthy. It sucks and is unfortunate. I'm assuming we'll be in the TE market next year, too?
  14. Michigan is a veteran team. They don't have a big post player, but they have good shooters, hustle, play a tough zone defense.
  15. FAU Offense looks better than ours. Mizzou 23 Texas 17
  16. Buckle up, I'm predicting a wild weird football time in Columbia. Texas 25 Mizzou 22
  17. @LonghornFan4Everthanks for posting.🤘
  18. 34-10 mizz defense plays strong but gets worn out due to offense going 3 and out consistently. Fresh hardy goes for first 100 yard of the season.
  19. There was no letting them transfer. Some bad feelings on the women's basketball team at the end of the year. It's a mini disaster that Schaefer has to overcome. Probably should take it to the women's basketball team thread. Also, I don't blame it all on Schaefer. There's plenty of blame to go around. But the bottom line is that at the end of the year we had several star players that no longer wanted to play for him.
  20. Absolutely agree. They have a lot of work to do. I think this season depends on 1) how fast the new players get through the learning curve (esp on defense) and 2) will Vic let the offense be more guard driven than post. And perhaps 3) how the new players, especially the freshmen, hold up from a stamina perspective, both during games and across the season. This team is going to have to play a lot of small ball. Breya is *only* 6'4", and the top teams all have taller players. If Breya gets in foul trouble - and opponents are going to try to get her in foul trouble as fast as they can - then their best option is 6'1" Etute. Hose just isn't going to hold up at all against top teams. I really really really hope I'm wrong there, but what we've seen so far doesn't give me any hope that she can give Breya a break. And Vic is on record saying he needs Breya to be able to play 30+ minutes this year. So, he knows.
