OTF Premium The Case for More 10 Personnel | Sunday 10:35 p.m.

The key with 10 personnel is protection. Good protection in this unit typically results in a good play. -

The spacing from 10 personnel here creates an easy walk-in touchdown. -
This might be straight conjecture. But as stated the PPG has decreased every year, and it seems like the pre snap motion has decreased with it. No WR motion like used with Worthy. With the RPOs or the motion reverse motion. Not sure if it correlates with an increase in talent believing sark can just win Mano y Mano. Or him believing it doesn’t work in the SEC anymore (factually wrong). His 2022 tape vs Alabama was a masterclass in pre snap movement and shifting. The reason he got the job at Texas was what he did w Alabama in 2019/20 with Jeudy, Waddle, Devonta Smith etc

Texas was in 10 personnel for 8 plays that accounted 83 yards on Saturday vs. Oklahoma. Good for 10.38 yards per play. The eight snaps: 10-yard pass to Emmett Mosley V 15-yard pass to Cam Coleman 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo -- halftime -- Arch Manning pick-six 9-yard pass to Emmett Mosley V 0-yard run by Hollywood Smothers 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr. pass thrown away The pick-six is the clear blemish. But completions on 6/7 other attempts for 83 yards is a good day given how much the Texas offense struggled throughout the game. *** Texas is averaging 9.93 yards per play in 10 personnel in the two SEC games where 10 personnel has been utilized. *** The personnel grouping is responsible for the following explosives in the two games: 34-yard pass 29-yard pass 18-yard pass 15-yard touchdown pass 15-yard pass 14-yard pass

OTF Premium Going to call a spade a spade
HonkEm replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Texas would take him back in about two seconds if he's still the best QB on the roster. The real question isn't whether Texas wants Arch. It's whether Arch plays well enough in 2026 that coming back even makes sense. If he's good, he's probably gone. If he's not good, then we're having a very different conversation about whether he should still be the starter. Honestly, I'd prefer he leaves after 2026. Not because I want him gone, but because that's probably the healthiest outcome for the program. If Arch comes back for 2027, you're asking the next QB in line to wait another year, and in today's portal era that's a real risk. I'd rather have Arch play well enough to be a high draft pick and keep the succession plan moving than lose a talented backup who gets tired of waiting -

The real question here is… IF he wants to come back in 2027, does Texas take him back? Does the Manning family want him back at Texas as well? He’s clearly not going in the 1st round of next years draft. -
The Longhorns offense is historically bad. Shocking stats
AusMOJO replied to jcash02's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The problem is, people have been saying this for years. But any time you bring it up people don't want to hear it. Sark has done great things for Texas, no one can dispute that. What he hasn't done is field competent and top Offenses. Hell, he fired a guy who had several top defenses at Texas. Which helped carry them to two semi-final appearances and conference title games. Sark can't figure out that he is the problem. He also thinks he can do both because his mentor did it before or something. He also states that it was the reason he was brought to Texas and my dumbass thought he was brought here to be the HC...silly me. -

This is a good find, CJ. Also shout out to you for having the gall to question Sark in the media. As to your post, I don't know that it really means much. They had a ton of yards against OU but what does any of that matter when 9 of your possessions end in 3 & outs and 2 turnovers? One of which gifted them 7 points and another that helped them seal the game. To me either Sark will figure it out or he won't. I love the discussions around this and it feels like we've been having them for years. That's the reality of it. -

I am certain this will all be fixed with a great week of practice. If it isn’t well it really doesn’t matter because there is nothing really wrong anyway. They hired him because of his offensive capabilities. The ones that Kirby loves to just shut down and dance on the sideline in celebration. -

Sark, as a recruiter and PR professional, is top-notch. Sark as an OC and HC leaves a lot to be desired. -

HonkEm replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I think there's probably some truth to both points, especially the running aspect. The Arch we saw against Michigan looked far more decisive because if his first read wasn't there, he'd tuck it and go. This year he seems determined to stay in the pocket and prove he's a passer, and I do wonder if that's making him play slower. Where I'd push back a little is that plenty of college offenses ask QBs to process complex passing concepts. At some point the quarterback has to be able to see the field and make the right decision. If a fourth-year player is still overwhelmed by the mental side of the position, that's not entirely on the play caller. To me, Sark deserves criticism if he's not tailoring the offense to what Arch does best. But Arch also deserves criticism if he's repeatedly missing defenders, forcing throws, or processing too slowly. The blame doesn't have to be exclusive to one side. The biggest mystery is that the decision-making looks worse, not better. That's the part I still can't reconcile. You can live with an occasional inaccurate throw. What's harder to explain is why a quarterback who protected the football so well a year ago is making so many costly mental mistakes now. That's what worries me the most. -

Yikes. Those are pretty sobering stats. I knew it wasn’t good but that’s flat out bad. Mix that with suspect ST and we may lose 3 or 4 games. I’d like to think Sark sees that and adjusts. History tells me he won’t. Stubborn mentality may get him out on the hot seat. -
What’s our identity on offense?
4thandFive replied to Breezey A LH4LIFE's topic in On Texas Football Forum
We don’t have an identity. At all. Sometimes it’s long bombs. Sometimes it’s power run. Sometimes we throw screens and run to the sideline. We don’t have any consistent, definable strategy it seems. I’m sure Sark does (hope he does) but it’s not observable. -

Those are Excellent questions. I'm not Gerry, but I think a lot of people are assuming we're looking at regression when we might actually be seeing exposure. Last year Arch played enough to flash talent, but not enough for defenses to spend months studying his tendencies or for him to carry the offense every week. The biggest positive was that he protected the football. This year he's been asked to be the centerpiece of the offense, and that's when some weaknesses have shown up. The interceptions don't bother me nearly as much as why they're happening. Too often it looks like he's locking onto a receiver, missing underneath defenders, or recognizing coverage rotations a beat too late. That's a processing issue more than an arm-talent issue. As for being a fourth-year player, experience doesn't automatically equal development. We've all seen guys make huge jumps after sitting, and we've seen others who never become elite field readers no matter how long they're in the system. The uncomfortable possibility is that Arch hasn't actually regressed. It may be that the second half of last year gave us an incomplete picture, and now that he's playing every meaningful snap, we're finally getting a clearer view of both the strengths and the limitations. To me, that's a more concerning explanation than simple regression because regression can be fixed. A quarterback struggling to consistently see the field is a much harder problem to solve. - Today

Bunk Moreland replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
@Gerry Hamilton my biggest question is how Arch could have regressed so significantly from the second half of last year. The one thing he did NOT do was turn the ball over. Even at his best he was never a particularly accurate passer, so his inefficiency this year is not surprising aside from the fact that he has not seemed to improve his accuracy as a passer since he’s been at Texas. But what is surprising is how much worse his decision making has been this year compared to the second half of last year. How has he regressed so badly in that regard? And how is he so bad at seeing the field as a fourth year player? -

During the Quinn era they had NFL running backs including one of the best in the NFL right now in Bijan. During the Arch era they've had jags (Baxter's been hurt). Quinn also had a better oline as well. That's not to excuse Arch, he's got his share of issues, but certainly doesn't help. -

Since we’re talking offense…. Interesting stat: since joining the SEC Texas home:away point differential on offense is 15 points! Perhaps Sark should have recruited an OC instead of (or at least in addition to) a DC in the off-season.
