JT Gasso is Oklahoma’s hitting coach. Earleywine actually has a highly successful track record as an offensive specialist and during his one season at Ole Miss, helped the team reach its first-ever WCWS. Under his direction, the offense broke nearly every single-season program record including runs, hits, and doubles. Ole Miss is 2nd to last in the SEC this season. Stewart and Goode are both hitting better than last year. Maloney and Atwood are not. Martinez has improved from 2024. Henry’s batting average is currently .400; it was .409 last year. I am concerned with the lack of production from all the freshmen besides Wells. If you’re not going to use the portal in favor of high school recruiting and development, players better be ready to go. I am not impressed and I truly hope White re-evaluates his beliefs on the portal. We need experience and production next year!

No. 3 seed Longhorns rally past USC, outlast UCLA for first MPSF title. By: Stella Lin HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – No. 3 Texas Beach Volleyball, the tournament's No. 3 seed, defeated No. 5 USC in the semifinals and No. 1 UCLA, the tournament's No. 2 seed, in the final to win the 2026 MPSF Championship on Friday at Spiker Beach. The title marks the program's first MPSF Tournament championship in its first season in the conference. Texas opened the day with a 3-2 semifinal victory over No. 5 USC, the tournament's No. 4 seed. The Trojans claimed the first two points before the Longhorns responded with three straight wins to complete the comeback. Brecht Piersma and Katie Hashman started the rally on Court 1 with a 21-18, 21-17 win. Macey Butler and Karin Zolnercikova followed on Court 5, battling to a 21-16, 17-21, 15-13 victory to even the dual. The clincher came on Court 3, where Emma Grace Robertson and Lily Davis rebounded after dropping the opening set to secure a 22-24, 21-18, 15-7 win. In the championship dual, Texas again found itself trailing as UCLA built a 2-0 lead with wins on Courts 2 and 4. The Longhorns answered on Court 3, where Robertson and Davis delivered a straight-sets victory, 21-17, 26-24. Less than 10 seconds later, Piersma and Hashman tied the dual on Court 1 with a three-set win, 21-19, 10-21, 15-13. The title came down to Court 5, where Butler and Zolnercikova clinched the championship. After dropping the first set, the pair rallied to win 16-21, 21-18, 15-9 and secure the title for Texas. The Longhorns finished the tournament undefeated, recording wins over No. 6 seed Grand Canyon, No. 2 seed UCLA twice and No. 5 USC. Texas has now defeated top-ranked UCLA three consecutive times and went 3-0 against both USC and Grand Canyon during the 2026 season. Texas will next travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to compete in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship. The hitting coach last year took a job as a head coach, this year’s coach came from ole miss I believe, they started off hot but have been in a massive slump the last few weeks. I dunno who ou’s hitting coach is but they are good.

This set up confuses me, is it double elimination or something? Texas beat UCLA in the quarterfinals but faces them again in the championship is weird to me.

I really feel like Spencer Shannon climbed way higher than expected too!

Don't think so because Swain isn't coming back. Keeps getting slotted higher and higher in mocks. Texas is recruiting like he's not coming back.

I think the bigger issue that needs to be addressed is the age of college student athletes, particularly in Olympic sports. I just don’t think 27-29 year olds should be freshman in college athletics even if they have never been in college before. That is Olympic age and the difference in body maturity with 18 year olds and 28 year olds is significant. It is definitely hurting high school recruiting in distance. Isn’t 24 or 25 a reasonable number to limit it?

Many players actually playing 5 or more seasons is due mostly to the extra covid years. The covid waivers distorted things but that is winding down and will be over soon. Unfortunately the upcoming HS prospects did not have as many open spots/scholarships due to the wide spread covid waivers allowing many upper class sticking around for a 5th and 6th year. For many decades, BYU has had older players due to missionary work. This will continue. It is not like mass injuries happen to foes when teams play an older BYU team. It is not a safety issue in my opinion. BYU is good and has an advantage but the advantage of older players is not insurmountable. So it is not a competition fairness issue either in my opinion. Believe it would be a shame that the few players that get injured for 3 or more seasons will not get an extra medical redshirt under this rule. This small group of long time injured players will likely get litigated and the myopic, arbitrary position may not stand. An exception should be granted for the few players that lose most of their seasons due to injuries.
