Discussion: Fastest football players at Texas
Jeff Howe replied to Hank South's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I remember the debate between whether he or DaBryan Blanton was the fastest man in Texas in 2002. -

Yes, Kobe Bryant averaged more points at age 27 than Michael Jordan did at the same age. Kobe Bryant (Age 27, 2005-06): 35.4 PPG. Michael Jordan (Age 27, 1990-91): 31.5 PPG -

Also, a shoutout to my guy Wane McGarity. He made Nebraska's secondary look slow in the '96 Big 12 title game and go back and look at his effort as a blocker on Ricky's record-breaking touchdown run against the Aggies in '98 (as Wane calls it, the most devastating block in the history of college football!). -

I'll give a mention to Marcus Johnson. He went sub-4.4 at his pro day and had moments where the straight-line speed was electric. His career could've been very different if Texas had better and more consistent quarterback play while he was in the program. -
Thoughts on moving Cozart to starter?
Jeff Howe replied to HornPharmD12's topic in On Texas Football Forum
In terms of moving him into one of the rotation spots and taking over for Ruger or Harrison, no. But, I could see a scenario where if Texas is in a loser's bracket game in a regional, or is up 1-0 in a Super Regional, with a chance to go to Omaha, he could have Cozart ready to go for an extended outing. Effectively, that would be using Ruger or Harrison as an opener and bringing in Cozart to either minimize the damage in an inning or protect a lead. -

Are there moral clauses on NIL's? Sounds stupid. I feel for hardy, seems some kids attract trouble. Hope, these kinda of stuff stops. -

I did an AI search if Kobe was better than MJ at 22. A-holes tried to include Jordan against Celtics at 23 in 1986. I then said exclude Jordan at 23 in 1986 and they admitted Kobe was better at 22 Why do these a-holes want to cheat? - Today

While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a more dominant defensive anchor during his peak by protecting the rim, Kobe Bryant is generally considered a better defender in Lakers history, bolstered by his 12 All-Defensive team selections. You beat Kareem at anything, you're an all time badass. -
Thoughts on moving Cozart to starter?
TCope111 replied to HornPharmD12's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Probably too late in the year to experiment but I wouldn’t mind letting Cozart get a conference start this week. I’d rather see Harrison move to long relief to come in after a righty starter. Burns is throwing better as far as strikes go, Crossland and Lefew have the stuff but haven’t necessarily been uber consistent. Ruger should stay where he is, he’s not been as good as he was early but I still like his stuff over Harrison’s. -

Kobe Bryant holds a significant advantage in elite defensive accolades, while both are legends in All-NBA selections. Kobe secured 12 total All-Defensive team selections (9 First Team, 3 Second Team) and 11 All-NBA First Team honors, whereas Kevin Durant has 0 All-Defensive selections and 6 All-NBA First Team selections as of late 2025. KD ain't Kobe. He's great, but he isn't the greatest of decade like Kobe. 1970s: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Milwaukee Bucks/LA Lakers) Unquestioned best player of the decade, winning 6 MVPs between 1971 and 1980. Runner-up: Julius Erving (dominant ABA/NBA presence). 1980s: Magic Johnson (LA Lakers) & Larry Bird (Boston Celtics) These two revived the NBA, splitting the decade's MVP and championship successes. Key Contender: Moses Malone. 1990s: Michael Jordan (Chicago Bulls) Dominated with 6 NBA championships and 6 Finals MVPs during the decade, achieving two "three-peats". Runners-up: Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson. 2000s: Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers) Defined the era with multiple titles and consistent top-tier performance. Key Contender: Shaquille O'Neal. 2010s: LeBron James (Miami Heat/Cleveland Cavaliers/LA Lakers) Reached 8 straight Finals, won 3 titles, and dominated in MVP voting for most of the decade. -

I hope he's ok, but I'm sure every head coach is talking to their teams this morning about trying your best to not put yourself in harm's way. -

It takes some nuts to tell the greatest free agent ever that he just drafted a 17 year old that would be better than him but he needed to come on over to win multiple titles. -
