Purplehorn3 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 The only bowl game I was ever directly associated with was our 1991 game versus Miami. The number one lesson learned is keep focus on the task at hand. we had not been to a Cotton Bowl since the 1984 game versus Georgia. Many of the guys had the attitude “We are happy to be here” The team was more interested in things like “what color of shoes are we going to wear”. (I kid you not) and weather or not we could get an extra set of warmups instead of the traditional Stetson cowboy hat. Bowl gifts are nice but a win would have been nicer. My brother still has his Stetsons from the 1982 and 1984 Cotton Bowls. My 1991 warmups eventually wore out and ended up in the Goodwill box about ten years ago Hook’em 2 Quote
Waxahorn Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 The 1984 and 1991 Cotton Bowls are two of the more painful games that I have attended. The loss to Georgia is more painful because it cost us a national championship. Quote

Migas & Fajitas Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 I was there. The weather was miserable. the worst. I remember someone telling me Miami practiced outdoors in shorts and t-shirts in sub freezing temps while we practiced indoors simulating plays in hotel meeting rooms. Quote

Some of that is true but we did have practices at SMU. Forrest Greg came out to watch a few 1 Quote

The difference in team speed was striking. I felt sorry for Gardere. Did not have a chance. 2 Quote
Oldest Horn Posted yesterday at 02:16 AM Posted yesterday at 02:16 AM That was one game where I was really embarrassed to be a Texas fan. Confirmed every suspicion and doubt I had about McW and his coaching abilities. Quote
Oldest Horn Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago One thing that hit me this morning was Miami had more penalty yards than we had total offense that game. I know folks aren’t happy with the number of penalties we incurred this year, especially the pre snaps. But in a sport where there are often can be bullies and victims, it’s better to be the bully. We were definitely the victims in that game. Quote
bevocbs Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Still the only game I have ever been to that I didn't stay for The Eyes. We were in the upper deck, the wind was whipping, and it was colder than anything I had ever felt. And we were about as prepared for the weather as the Horns were for the Canes. We made it to late in the 4th quarter, but it was more than we could stand... Quote
