This is so flabbergasting to me. The guy gambled, on his own team. Multiple times. He is done. No second chances. Gone. It should be that simple. Allowing it would destroy the integrity of the sports and corrupt it even further. Why would Tech push back even a millimeter?

One would think you're correct. And yet...

The other thing that Tech has failed to acknowledge is that if he falls back into his addiction he will find a way to circumvent all the digital and financial account monitoring that they are using to justify that he can safely participate in football in the future.  The first time some alumni hands him a Benjamin there’s nothing that they can do keep him from buying a burner and paying someone to set up an account for him.  I’m sure that there are plenty of people that would be more than willing to go out of their way to “help” someone that is publicly known to be sitting on $6m (assuming he’s allowed to play).

Have you seen the but "he turned himself in" crowd?

Sure, he turned himself in and sought help AFTER he got caught or was told that he was caught again. It's all such bs.

@Gerry Hamilton Why would any Texas high school coach or program want anything to do with Texas Tech anymore?

Exactly this! I have to think this hits them in the gut on recruiting and future anything!

From the Tennessee softball coach about a former player of hers that is now at Texas Tech.

"In an interview with The Athletic, Weekly said, “There’s no question they were in contact with our player long before the season was over. … A financial agreement was signed with Texas Tech before she ever went in the portal. (She) told me that.”"

Also bet against his team lol. Bet the under for yards and points

Nvmd I just saw the quote from the article. Holy crap Tech should fry for what they're trying to do. Sorsby needs a lawyer for Federal crimes more than NCAA rule violations

This! I would be scared of being indicted. DOJ indicted Chauncey and those group of college basketball players like 6 months ago.

Lawyers out there: how long would you expect the Sorsby hearing to last before the judge issues a ruling? I know Kessler is asking for a decision before June 15. Is there any realistic chance it actually takes that long, or would you expect a ruling much sooner?

From what I have read, they would expect a ruling sooner than that.

Btw, district court judges don’t get to draft significant opinions, so I bet this guy will write a novel

Doubtful. District court judges can't set precedent, so there is no reason to expand much.

I read some of the court reporting from this morning and Sorsby/Tech have no scrooples.  Their arguments; he is really sorry, he got help voluntarily (he didnt until he got caught), he will fail without football (ignoring the fsct he has failed with football already), ncaa doesnt care about his mental health by wanting to punish him, is gambling really that bad?, looka t all these letters from the rehab that say he has been the best patient ever and all risk is gone (tech of course didnt pay for any of the statements).

I wonder if there will be a journalist brave enough to ask Joey how it feels to sell your morals for trying to win games.
