    My guess is they strategically scheduled Texas last to keep as many media members around. Last year, the final day consisted of Sam Pittman, Mark Stoops, Eli Drinkwitz, and Mike Elko. While Drinkwitz might bring some entertaining responses, there wasn’t much incentive for others to stick around for the fourth day beyond those teams’ media members.

    That would be funny if he did, since they let their backup transfer to West Virginia and would have to rely on a true freshman unless they found a QB in the portal.

    Completely agree with you. The only reason I could rationalize is if he wanted to stay closer to family. I don’t know his family situation, but maybe he has relatives who would have a hard time getting to his games. Visiting three different campuses in one week, all far from his hometown, might put things into perspective and make staying closer to home feel like the best option. Like you said, he’s going to make money anywhere. I know I might be reaching a bit, but with Alabama’s QB situation, that’s honestly the only reason I can think of for choosing Alabama. Also, it’s still Alabama—they’re going to put a good team on the field regardless of their quarterback situation.

    Convinced several schools ran a group project where they told their stars, “Have your agent reach out to Texas to see if they would have an interest in signing you.” Then Texas, doesn’t re-sign anyone, thinking upgrades are coming. Then—surprise!—everyone stays home and Texas is left refreshing Twitter and message boards.

    It’s definitely changed since I was there—they actually have football now. I was only a freshman for the 2001 championship and was long gone before the three-peat basketball championships in ’08, ’09, and ’10. It’s pretty cool that you’ve heard of Ponder before, not very many have.haha

    I know the SEC announced this year that it would move to a nine-game schedule and require one non-conference game against a "quality" Power Four opponent. What’s stopping the SEC from reversing course and eliminating the requirement to schedule at least one Power Four opponent?

    I'm not disagreeing with you—I feel the same way. I'm just passing along what I heard. He said they've already started the enrollment forms for students beginning after the New Year, not that he is starting school there right now. But man what a complete mess with the timing of coaching hires, playoffs, school enrollment, the portal, and signing day all happening around the same time.

    Was just told Kiffin's son has enrolled University High school in Baton Rouge. So it sure seems like it's happening.

    @Bobby Burton @CJ Vogel @Gerry Hamilton @Jeff Howe Is it possible that the entire Desmond Howard situation is really an effort to prevent Malakai Lee from flipping to Texas from Michigan? I wasn’t sure how actively Texas was still pursuing Lee. It may not be an ethical approach, but Michigan hasn’t exactly built a reputation on prioritizing ethics.

    A close friend of mine — whose parents are significant donors and who’s usually well-informed about LSU’s behind-the-scenes matters — told me that LSU is hiring Lane Kiffin.
