TexTheHorn24 Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago What Texas tech is gonna do in the portal from what I heard who they’ve got targeted and even signed is absolutely disgusting and diabolical for the game. Hopefully Texas counters a little bit in the portal as well. 1 Quote

Tech isn’t going to do anything more than they did last year. Last year was disgusting and diabolical. They have very few holes to fill. And, yes, I am very aware of the rumors. Speaking of rumors, there’s another school in Texas that will make things difficult for Tech regarding Isa. Tech isn’t the only one involved. Edited 2 hours ago by TexasEx_10 Quote

Apparently the top three are Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Texas. She isn’t looking for just the most money. She’s looking for the best culture as well. I found it interesting because all those schools return their middle infield. Texas Tech returns Toney at shortstop and Mia Williams at second base. Texas A&M returns KK Dement at shortstop but has second base open. Texas returns Vivi Martinez at shortstop but has second base open. Her sister Marianna left Texas A&M when Ford was there. Also Samantha Swan and Isa Torres played high school ball together at Georgetown which is about a 35 minute drive from Austin. They could possibly want to play close to home. Just like Madison Azua is from Round Rock which is closer at about 25 minutes from Austin. 1 Quote

Azua, Swan, and Torres would be a hell of a portal haul without going overboard like Tech has and risking too many players leaving. The possibility of being a contributor to a 3-peat and playing close to home as opposed to just chasing the biggest offer has to be appealing to them. We’ll see what happens. Quote

If they can get Torres, they are booting Toney to the curb without a thought. Texas on the other hand will not; there's an open slot at 2nd base but if Torres is set on playing SS, then that's narrows it down. Of the three names you mentioned - Azua, Swan, and Torres, I think the least likely of the three for Texas is Swan. While Reese graduates, they have two highly touted youngsters. Azua makes sense because they need a solid LHP and potentially #2 behind Kavan. Torres if she takes 2nd or if Martinez moves to 2nd is a no brainer, but highly doubtful given how much money Tech's going to throw at her. Quote

I don’t. I’d love an experienced catcher while the youngsters learn and grow. Softball America has also said some schools might want Swan to play in the outfield. I don’t know if that’s what Swan wants to do though. Edited 1 hour ago by TexasEx_10 Quote

Fair question and the answer would be no unless she's so good you can't keep her on the bench, however there's going to be sophomore catcher Anne Wallace as well; worst case Kate could catch but they probably want her at 1st base with her athleticism. If Swan's an upgrade over Wallace, they do it. Defensively we're definitely going to miss Atwood's prowess at throwing out runners and pickoffs. 3 Quote

HookemTexas Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Also let's remember it doesn't have to be a big name with the squad they already have assembled - last year Altmeyer wasn't the big splash transfer name, but she had some key moments in the WCWS. 1 Quote

I honestly don’t know the answer to that. She primarily played second base and catcher at Georgetown HS and was signed as a Catcher/Utility player. I know Baylor is very interested in her so it would not surprise me if she ended up there either. Quote

This is true. I truly believe that Texas/White improves and develops players anyway. Kaiah also started the year off extremely hot, but slumped during SEC play. But she got hot again when Texas needed it. Quote
TexTheHorn24 Posted 33 minutes ago Author Posted 33 minutes ago Texas still does things the right way. Same with OU to an extent. Develop your home grown talent first and foremost. Bring in some transfers to compliment. tech just brings in basically a new team every year from the portal. 1 Quote

Yes, she follows a lot of Texas accounts and players, but she also started following Tech and OU softball before her announcement to transfer, too. She’s limited to 3rd base only, by the way. Quote
ArizonaLonghorn Posted 16 minutes ago Posted 16 minutes ago How does the Texas requirement that you complete 50% of your coursework at UT to earn a degree affect our ability to recruit juniors? I see Sam Swan is listed as a junior at ASU so if she would lose say 1/3 of her credits transferring to UT she would probably need two more years to graduate, but at other schools more accepting of transfer hours she could graduate in a year. (This was what Sark was referring to when he said you could take just one class at Ole Miss and earn a degree). So seniors could portal in as grad transfers while portal frosh or sophs would potentially keep all or most of their credit hours, but juniors would take a hit, right? Quote

I feel like Nichols pretty much solidified her spot with her play in the WCWS. If Beachum is only 3rd base that's probably a no go. Quote
