Schloss felt Volantis was pitching well enough through the fifth to send him out for the sixth.

On Burns, Schloss said it's the second walk that hurt the most. They got Smith where they wanted on the first walk, but Burns didn't locate the cutter well enough to get Smith to swing.

"I always want to give the umpire the benefit of the doubt," Schloss said of letting players demand a review of a call. "But if you're right, let me know."

"If they can get on base and flip the lineup to Tinney and Robbins and Pack, that's when we have a chance to score a lot of runs," Schloss said of the bottom of the lineup.

Larson, Borba and Pendergrass went 1-for-7, but they scored three runs and combined to draw four walks.
