OTF Premium Texas Baseball Secures UCLA Portal Outfielder

Jim Schlossnagle and Texas Baseball secure a commitment from former UCLA outfielder Payton Brennan Monday evening. 

Brennan hit .290 with 9 home runs and 51 RBI for the Bruins in 2026. He also racked up a .394 on base percentage on the season.

per 64Analytics, Brennan was the No. 8 player in the portal rankings, adding to what has been a solid haul for the Horns this summer.

With the current roster, the Texas outfield will likely consist of Anthony Pack Jr., Sawyer Solitaria and Payton Brennan as the starting trio. Long Beach State OF addition Trevor Goldenetz is likely your 4th option.

Sounds like a great pickup.....one wonders if Gasparino had positive things to say about his time at Texas and if that had any influence on his decision to pick Texas

1. Better college player than Laya, sue me. Certainly last year, and probably this coming year too if he turns down the pros. Can actually compete against lefties, more pop, better arm, more polished player. In Laya, LSU gets two years before draft eligibility and a higher draft ceiling, but I would love Brennan if he makes it!

2. Minor point, but as of right now, I don't think we have a DH candidate from the infield, who's a better offensive player than Goldenatz. So IMO the OF+DH lineup today would be 

LF - Pack (unless promises were made about CF that don't reflect his actual current ability)

CF - Goldenatz

RF - Brennan

DH - Solitaria

Cant imagine them wanting to go down the same road again and not learn from it.

Pretty sure they had assurances last year also. The MLB draft is this weekend so it won’t take long to find out if he gets drafted.

Last year Moroknek committed to Texas on June 12, 2025 and Freeman committed on June 14….a full month before the draft.

I would think the addition of Goldenetz is in a way its own draft insurance policy for 2027.

Yes definitely. 

Easton Autrey, Beau Peterson will compete for an INF spot. 

arms include Cooper Harris, Trey Rangel and James Jorgensen.
