That's not entirely true. With a player like Goosby and the future he has ahead of him, a trainer can certainly manipulate the knee and check for resistance or instability. However, the smart move is to get an MRI and see exactly what is or isn't damaged before making any assumptions.

yeah but they would be saying its "just precautionary"

For sure. Him getting a MRI isn’t a sign it’s serious. It would be malpractice not get get a MRI.

I just spoke to an orthopedic surgeon that I work with and he said if it was an ACL, MCl tear that he wouldn’t be able to stand and walk. He said it could be a slight sprain, or some kinda of patella or hamstring injury

Athletic trainers always do a couple of tests immediately on the area. They usually give a pretty good idea on the injury. But the MRI confirms the severity of a tear or sprain if at all etc. So obviously there was some  looseness etc. Just hope for the best .

A tear is 3rd degree strain

Likely correct. Something was concerning enough to do further testing. Hopefully it’s an mcl sprain or a meniscus.

Nobody is downplaying Goosby. Losing a potential top10 pick is obviously a big deal. The point is that Texas has an absurd amount of talent behind him. If the roster is truly one injury away from the season falling apart, that says something about the roster construction and development.

But sure, “Sark hatred” is easier than actually addressing the point. 🤣

If you were an Ohio State fan and the news came out that Jeremiah Smith had a knee injury, I promise that your first response wouldn't be "If they don't have the depth to withstand that injury, that is a coaching problem!"

Incorrect you can stand and walk with a  ACL, MCI tear.

Yeah but the report said he walked of “fine” with any knee injury even just a strain you typically don’t walk “fine”. So that’s an encouraging sign.

Except that wasn’t my first response. My point was that Texas has one of the three most talented rosters in the country and should have enough talent to withstand losing one player, even a very good one.

And your hypothetical actually proves my point. I wouldn’t suddenly assume the entire season is over because Ohio State has a loaded roster and plenty of other elite players.

You keep arguing against something I didn’t say because apparently “Goosby is a huge loss AND Texas should still have enough talent to overcome it” is too nuanced for the assistant manager. 😂

I can assure you it is not good if they're going through all this. An athletic trainer can tell generally if something is seriously wrong and someone in the family would have said they think it's nothing if that was the trainer didn't feel looseness when moving the knee.

The staff likely already knows if it’s an ACL. The manual Lachman test is very accurate. The MRI would just be confirmatory. So they’re either doing an MRI to confirm ACL or bc it’s not an ACL and to check other ligaments/ soft tissue
