8 Days Until Kickoff: Who Was The Best No. 8?

Eight days until kickoff and today’s countdown takes us to No. 8.

Jordan Shipley finished his Texas career with 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns and he became one of the most productive receivers in program history. His 2009 season was especially ridiculous: 116 catches, 1,485 yards, Consensus All-American honors and a huge role in helping Texas reach the national championship game.

Cedric Griffin also deserves plenty of love here. He was a major part of the 2005 national championship defense, finishing his Texas career with 275 tackles, 32 pass breakups and five forced fumbles. Griffin earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2005 and was one of the veterans on a defense loaded with NFL talent.

Jaxon Shipley put together a really productive four-year career of his own. He finished with 218 receptions, 2,510 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He finished among the program’s career leaders in receptions.

Trey Moore spent two seasons at Texas and became a steady piece of the Longhorn defense, appearing in 28 games with 21 starts. He finished his Texas career with 71 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks, helping Texas reach the CFP semifinals in 2024 before closing out his career in 2025.

Current Longhorns to wear No. 8 are Cam Coleman and Kade Phillips.
