Colin Simmons Is A Freak

Everybody is still coming out of their stance and he’s already three steps into his pass rush. The ball get off is beyond impressive, terrifying for an OT and one of many reasons why he will be a top 10 pick next year in the draft.

If he can get to like 14+ sacks in the 12 regular season games and Texas is in the CFP at that point, I think he ends up in New York, even though a 100% defensive player will probably never win the Heisman.

I am sure he went into the portal knowing he was headed to go with lane to LSU, But prince umanmielan is the co sack leader with colin with 7 sacks. It would have been a complete nightmare to have prepared for both of those guys on our defense. Waiting for coach boom to start using biles as a disruptor as well.

Defensive line/edge rushers to make it to New York in the last 20 years -

2009 - Nebraska DL Ndamukong Suh - 85 total tackles (52 solo), 20.5 TFLs, 12 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF in 13 games (Nebraska played UT in B12 Championship) 

Mark Ingram won over Suh, Colt McCoy, Tebow, and Toby Gerhart. Suh finished 4th in the Heisman

Joe Burrow won over Young, Jalen Hurts, and Justin Fields. Young finished 4th in the Heisman

2021 - Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson - 62 total tackles (36 solo), 16.5 TFLs, 14 sacks, 3 batted passes, 2 FF, 1 FR in 13 games (Michigan played in B10 Championship)

Bryce Young won over Hutchinson, CJ Stroud, and Kenny Pickett. Hutchinson finished 2nd in the Heisman

I know this isn't an exact science and is obviously a hypothetical, especially with 8 SEC games remaining, but if you triple Colin Simmons stats through 4 games: 

36 total tackles (27 solo), 25.5 TFLs, 21 sacks, 3 FF, 3 FR in 12 games. 

Those numbers would put Simmons 4th on the list in tackles, 1st in TFLs, 1st in sacks, 2nd in FF, and 1st in FR.

Those numbers would put Simmons 4th on the list in tackles, 1st in TFLs, 1st in sacks, 2nd in FF, and 1st in FR. 

And stats won't get Colin to New York by himself. 

It's unrealistic to expect him to produce every game like he did Saturday vs. the Vols, but he needs to bring it every week. And by bring it every week, he has to be a menace vs. OU, A&M, Florida, Ole Miss, and LSU.

The OU OL has stunk so far and it's a big rivalry game. Same with A&M. The games vs. UF and Ole Miss will be huge national TV games. Same goes for LSU, but even more since the Tigers have Jordan Seaton, who is the top OT Colin will face this year. Guys like Suh, Young, and Hutchinson were all pretty much unstoppable during their Heisman finalist seasons and showed up in pretty much every game. Only game I can really think of where one of those guys didn't is when Hutchinson got manhandles by UGA in the playoffs but that game took place after the Heisman ceremony.

If I'm being honest I don't think Colin has any chance to win it with him being a defensive player, but he definitely has a chance to make it to New York which would be an amazing accomplishment.
