ElCafetero
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/41430604/unlv-qb-matthew-sluka-no-longer-play-rebels-representations-were-not-upheld Thought this was an interesting read. Could we see more players do this and could we see full player lockout like in the NBA and NFL

Troy_Piesker
UNLV coaching staff/athletic department is obligated to have their finger on the pulse of their NIL collectives. The school is responsible for allowing something like this to happen. Totally understand the kid sitting out because, at this point, there is no trust between him and the school/coaching staff. Eventually, there needs to be some sort of requirement for a contract to bind everything together. Without that, this will continue to happen to several athletes. In some cases, the athletes are hoping for the money to support their families, which is why lying about the money is an absolutely terrible offense. ElCafetero
I’ve also seen some reports that all obligations were met and that he hired an agent and demanded more money

Tuco Ramirez
A) This brings up an interesting issue. Schools shoulder reputational risk for the actions or inactions of their third party collectives. Everyone is talking about UNLV even though they had nothing to do with this alleged agreement. I wonder if this is a reason why CDC wanted to bring collectives in house. B) Contracts 101. An agreement doesn’t exist unless there is a signed contract. He may say there was a verbal agreement, but all UNLV or their collective has to say (and they are) is that no such agreement existed. C) It’s starting to sound like this kid hired an agent and tried to squeeze the collective for more money now instead of pursuing an executed contract in the first place. Sounds very mercenary. I’m not sure what schools (other than Oklahoma) will be interested in paying for a QB who quit on his team mid-season for money. Especially after only three games for a G5 school. I’m not sure he really helped himself here.
Burnt Orange Horn
Any signed contract would have been an illegal inducement under NCAA rules.
