Sure, but at some point you need to trust the guys you've recruited. There is so much talent there. I understand wanting the experience, but I'd be fine rolling with the dudes we've got. Otherwise what is the point of recruiting these guys?

In the transfer portal era there is no excuse to be inexperienced.

Regarding Derek Williams, his injury happened in October so I'd say we could probably expect him back about October to November to be fully recovered and able to play(judging off Brooks timeline).

Jelani McDonald is the only player potentially going into next year with good game experience.

"The dudes we got" looks like this(Assuming Ttaaffee goes pro):

You can’t tell me our Longhorn DLs aren’t being poached by other teams!!  Imagine…Longhorns have the #1 defense in the country.  This happened because of careful development and Coaching at Texas.

The guys who have left are not good.

I think not good is a bit unfair.  Their skillset is relative - they weren't good enough to break into the lineup for Texas, but they are likely plenty good enough to break into the lineup for a large majority of schools outside of the small handful of elite programs.

yep, have to take a Safety, even if Taaffe comes back. Williams will not be ready until mid season and then time to get adjusted to game speed. Filsaime hasnt played at all. JJR has gotten a few snaps and could be in line to get more in 25. Williams and Hicks clearly are young but good. Cant assume they will be ready to play 20+ snaps/game.

If he's a take, I really hope he can put on some good weight...

He's freaking 240 already. What do you want him at... and logically be a threat up the seam or between the hashes? That plenty big enough to block with... that's more techniques and want to.

Bremen Thompson on the move again eh? Maybe North Texas for him? He had every opportunity to make an impact there an failed. What do we think about McCullough? If that’s the guy I’m thinking of (wore number 1) he is a beast and might be a nice addition to the LB room?

@CJ Vogel any thoughts on Niblack? The guy is talented and has been getting a few more reps down the stretch. Would love to hold on to him and see if he develops in the offseason into a better overall TE. Dude has elite traits and seems he would be a match up nightmare in the red zone/short yardage situations.

Until I see him become a physical presence in the trenches, it would best be spent by Texas have a proven piece near the LOS. Niblack is what he is at tight end and that’s a mismatch in space with elite speed. Not the inline guy like Helm who can’t help in the run game.

Gotcha!! I keep hoping he’ll get after it blocking when he’s in but just hasn’t clicked or he doesn’t want to do it. Do we think he is likely to transfer?

The thing that’s tough with Niblack is he can be serviceable in the running game but what I’ve seen is he doesn’t have natural soft hands. Tends to let the ball travel too far to either try to catch with the body or the ball goes right through his hands. Once he gets the ball he can be a mismatch but he needs more reliable hands to be used more effectively.
