Portal Note (Friday 7:22am CST)

Aside from the bundling vs a la carte NIL aspect is the development opportunity for both.

How many years would Zachariah play before declaring? Probably not too long for Zion to benefit from a Texas or Georgia S&C plus maybe some good tape before reportaling to a better landing spot than he can get now?

If immediate playing time for Zion is key, how much does a 2nd tier team offense hurt Zachariahs draft stock? Seems like a Nebraska or SMU would be making a bid like that. And a Deion offer to Zion would say a lot too.

My take. Pass on Branch. All hype, no production. Saying we have to take care of his brother NIL wise to get him already is a turn off. Your brother isn’t good at football and hurt. Pass.

Take the money you’d have given Singleton or even Branch and get give it to Golden to return. Boom

Still need a speed WR (10.2) that puts pressure on the defense.

@Gerry Hamilton do you think the Texas coaches are being cautious with WRs in the portal because they think there’s a chance they could get Bond and/or Golden for another year? I know Bond wanted to be one and done, but he’s not getting any 1st round draft grades anymore since that injury. Feels like he could benefit from another healthy season.

This update highlights the perversity of the current anarchy in the CFB realm.

“Hey, my brother isn’t very good, but you guys need to overpay him as well. Don’t worry about the merit of it, pay up.

By the way, don’t look at my performance versus my HS rank, as it’s trash and I’m a one trick pony. Pay me north of $1M to mostly catch a couple of screens each game and maybe score one ST touchdown next season, thanks!”

I’m rooting against these guys and I hope Georgia decides to overpay for them. Do not want.

I don't root against any kids, especially if he is just trying to make sure his brother is taken care of. He is doing what he thinks is best and its the opposite of being selfish, which I kind of respect. Some team will do exactly what he is asking for, and if he decides to go there, so be it. Would love to have him in burnt orange next season, he is a great developmental talent.

Golden ISN’T a speed WR Sark wants a speedy (10.2-10.3) WR.

Okay, but you’re gonna tell me that any of these guys in the portal are better than Golden or that the coaches wouldn’t want him back for another year? And Bond IS a speed WR, hence my question.

Sark is looking for speedy WR regardless what Golden decides. A speedy WR is vital to Sarks offense

My freshman year of high school, the baseball coach called my parents and asked if there would be issues if he brought me up to varsity while my twin brother stayed on the JV team. They said the coach needed to do what was best for the team as they’d do what was best for me.
I’d love to have my brother up there, but I needed to do what was best for me long term. We were both on varsity our junior and senior seasons.
Zachariah needs to do what is best for him and his career. I wouldn’t go to a weaker system just because the school has playing time for his brother.

Were you dunking at the time? Or dropping 20 points?

While this just tugs at the heartstrings and all, there are a few problems here:

1) they’re not “kids”. they’re in their 20’s.

2) i have been all for wealth transfer when merited during this NIL transition. when merited. this isn’t that. this is a guy saying “go find more alums to pay my mediocre brother off so he can mooch less off of me. “

Maybe you don’t contribute to NIL so it doesn’t matter to you and you get to cheer for the results of NIL’s largesse anyway. Some of us have been quite involved with NIL and are getting really sick of this end of the nonsense.

So yeah, I will be rooting against these two paid professionals in adulthood. You do whatever suits you, and tuck the naive admonishments away for private time.
