Does Khenon have a relationship with Osborne and Latimer and Crowell and Cooper?  If so, he might work.  But I doubt that a coach from Baylor has developed strong relationships with these recruits, especially from out of state.

Osborne, yes.  Haven't read about the others.

Samples is a "splash" hire and fantastic recruiter, but I'm not sold on his ability to coach and develop RBs long term.

No on Samples

Oregon’s NIL is huge season why D. Moore signed with the Ducks. Past on Samples. Chris Gilbert has DFW covered. Agree on lack RB development under Samples

Choice helped every other coach on the staff get into Georgia and Florida.  Choice may not have been the “lead recruiter” but those recruits would not have signed with Texas without Choice.  The same thing goes for Jeff Banks.

Right on. Going to be tough to replace that Georgia connection

What I can tell you is that the guy calling the plays is the same and the plays will be the same. We will get top backs even with you coaching the backs.

Sark isn’t going to pay me $850,000 to coach running backs.  That’s what Sark was paying Choice.  Sark believed that he was getting something for that much money, a top of the line recruiter.

A no name RB coach is not going to “make it rain” in the short term, no matter how good he is as a coach.

The program is coming off of 2 straight final four appearances, a great rb history  with nfl, NIL,  Sparks’s offensive reputation, great culture.  The reasons are very long why recruits pick UT.  The program is in a much position today than anytime over the past 15 years.  The running back coach isn’t going to be the sole reason why recruits pick a school.

The position coach is “a reason” why recruits pick a school.  The margins are thin in high profile recruitments, the kind we are thankfully in now.  We are fighting the big boys for elite recruits.  They all are winning, have great coaches who send kids to the NFL and massive NIL.  You don’t want to go into that fight with a position coach “trying to catch up.”

Texas isn’t “trying to catch up” regardless who the new RB coach hired. Sark will hire a qualified RB coach

Chris Jackson said that he was way behind for the 2024 class.  Kenny Baker said the same thing when he was hired.

They were NFL hires. Sark probably hire a college RB coach.

How about promoting Chris Gilbert to RB coach? He has a great reputation and would solidify the Horns stronghold on DFW. Definitely a volume recruiter, but not sure how deep his connections go beyond the State of Texas.

If Sark is looking to continue his Florida/Georgia connection, Kevin Smith makes a ton of sense. He's from the Miami area and  played at Central Floria. He is coaching in Georgia currently. Young, energetic coach on the rise. That checks several boxes.

I’d prefer Carlos Locklyn, but Kevin Smith makes a lot of sense.

That was three years ago while the Sarks program was developing and we had time for coaches to develop.  Now that development may cost us a Natty.

Point is he killed it from day without being the proverbial splash hire.

Texas brand. Texas rb reputation. Texas NIL. Coach Sark. We’ll get who we need to continue moving forward. Chicken littles get old.

We took Choice from Lincoln Riley and USC; that qualifies as a bit of a splash hire.  That’s hardly the same as taking a RB coach from say Baylor.

Choice never moved to USC. So BS.

USC staff sucks

So I honestly do not remember any SPLASH went Choice was hired.  It is sad he will not be around when his recruits gets drafted.  Only transfer Keilan Robinson  a transfer was drafted.  All the others were Drayton's recruits.

A surprising hire, yes.  A splash hire, no.

A successful hire, certainly.

Former Dallas Cowboys RB stolen from Lincoln Riley, Choice was a bit of a splash.  Recruits knew who he was.
