B2inATX Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Thanks, Blake! Couldn’t help but notice that the Aggies dropped out altogether. Irony of ironies…the Aggies are having the season they thought WE would have, and we are having the season they thought THEY would have. Perfect! 😂 Hope it keeps up! 2 2 Quote
.45s Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Saw your analysis of the team on Coffee and Football. They are still not running on all cylinders and different guys seem to have stretches of inconsistency, including returning stalwarts. Schloss will keep tweaking until he finds the right mix and hopefully more consistency among those expected to be the starters. That being said, there is a lot of talent and when some are in slumps others have picked them up. Overall, pitching has been better than expected, but is still a work in progress. Let's hope some greater consistency occurs now that the tough SEC schedule has started. I am more hopeful than before that the team will be in the playoffs and at least make it into super regionals. I would like to make another trip to Omaha, even though the hotels engage in price gouging during that time. Hook'em. Quote
Moderators CJ Vogel Posted March 17 Moderators Posted March 17 Pitching has been tremendous to start the season for the Longhorns. My one concern is this – it feels at times that relievers are left in for too long. 30-40 pitch outings eventually wear on relievers who aren't privy to that length. It has happened a few times specifically to Ruger Riojas. Obviously, it has yet to bite the Longhorns just yet, but it is something that I will continue to monitor moving forward. 7 Quote

We had that issue in the past with Duplantier. He appears to have worked on some things and hopefully improved on that. Riojas in particular does seem to have that 30-40 pitch/2 inning bug, at least in his last couple of outings when he went that far. Hopefully Wiener can do his thing with the middle relief guys. It would be nice to have reliable 2-5 inning relief guys when you need them. Quote

Perhaps it is like a sprinter running a longer distance at higher intensity in preparations to ensure they are prepared to the fullest and keep gas in the tank for when it is time to run the actual distance? Not sure. 1 Quote
jkates Posted March 17 Posted March 17 What a start to the season. Let's see how well we can keep it going. Some legitimate concerns have been mentioned above regarding relief pitching. I think we need another bat to step up. Winfield, Farmer, Chamberlain, and Schuessler aren't getting it done, on the whole. I expect Flores to hit better. Will Borba keep hitting, and if he does, will he stay in the lineup? Quote
Bobbers Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I guess I don't know much about baseball, but how can the Longhorns be both #5 and #21? Quote

I disagree a little. I think Weiner is seasoning them a little bit for tougher battles looming on the schedule. Quote
