KlondikeMike Posted April 8 Posted April 8 https://share.icloud.com/photos/037jr4i333RenFZPHcdpcGXgw Gerry, Bobby, Jeff, or CJ, I was privileged to join my daughter’s senior pledge class at DKR Friday night for exclusive use of the Hall of Fame, field and complete tour of Moncrief, excepting the players’ lockers area and so forth. Of course, I thought it was all fantastic but it got me to wondering… Do y’all know how we measure up currently in this respect against other top programs? That is, are we ahead of, on par with, or behind others that we regularly battle for the same top recruits? Does it matter as much in this day and age as it did maybe prior to NIL? Do y’all know of any upgrades in the near- or long-term in the works? I think we are getting a new bubble? Thanks in advance… 4 Quote
Bobby Burton Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Texas is in the midst of trying to rectify about 10-15 years of relative inaction on the facilities front. The biggest piece of the puzzle for football has been the lack of a premier indoor facility. The Texas bubble has lagged that of other top tier programs for the last decade-plus. It's also inconveniently located. It took a while to get things situated, but I feel like things will finally be satisfied for football with this build. Everything else that is still to be done should be straight-forward (like grass at DKR). For other sports, I think baseball's turf is behind others but that's up to Coach Schloss to define what he wants and then for CDC to go get it accomplished. Outside of that, with the creation of Moody, I just don't hear anything other than rave reviews for Texas facilities overall. 9 1 Quote
KlondikeMike Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 Thanks, Bobby. You read my mind on the inconvenient location of the current bubble. Y’all are always talking about a certain player or two being “the first one off the bus to practice“ and, of course, I am assuming that that is what you are referring to… A shuttle bus ride from Moncrief to the bubble. What a pain. Is the new bubble/indoor facility going to be located where all that construction is happening immediately south of Moncrief (anyone)? Thanks again. Quote
GoHorns1 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) Indoor track, a modern Volleyball facility that also be used for future gymnastics team, on campus beach volleyball need to be built IMO. These can be probably be built at old football practice facilities area once the new practice facilities are finished. Edited April 8 by GoHorns1 1 Quote

What is crazy to think about is there are Texas HS football programs with better indoor facilities than the bubble. I think locker room renovations and S&C technology improvements should be done every 3-5 years, more frequent for S&C tech. Of course NIL is a driving factor but you don't want to fall behind and get dated facilities like we had prior to Herman and this bubble upgrade. Edited April 9 by Hashtag 3 Quote
