Late Night Thoughts (Texas Baseball Yap Session)

Can't sleep much after the game last night. Although this was such a disappointing way to end the season and the past couple of weeks have been frustrating to say the least, I am still proud of the guys for doing what they did in the regular season. This year was supposed to be a rebuild year and we were supposed to a middle-of-the-pack SEC team and probably end up a 2/3 seed in someone's regional. This team ended up exceeding pre season expectations and went on an amazing run for most of the season and brought us a regular season SEC title. 

Y'all can disagree with me if y'all want, but I think with how much emotion there was in the A&M series, that series alone emotionally drained the team going into Arkansas and I think that Arkansas series really messed up some of the players confidence moving forward. The other big reason I feel we had the late season slump was Jared Spencer getting injured. Losing him caused an identity crisis for our pitching rotation and really showed the lack of depth we had in the bullpen. 

With all that being said, what Schloss was able to accomplish with a squad that was not the most talented and straight up not the best baseball players is amazing and shows how bright the future is with this. We will get better every year from here, we have an amazing recruiting class coming in and have no doubt the NIL backing for the portal will be there.

Best Game: Game 2 vs LSU

Best single game performance (Batting): Casey Borba vs Kansas State 2 H, 2 HR, 8 RBI / Kimble Schuessler vs Auburn (Game 3) 3 H, 1 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI

Best single game performance (Pitching): Jared Spencer vs Georgia (Game 1) W, 7.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 11 K, 111 Pitches

Alright thats it, lets hope softball can finish the job and bring home a title, then its back to focusing on Football😎

There was a lot more i missed on this message regarding the hitting situation, but we already know about that I don't feel like singling guys out right now. Only thing I will say is you can leave as many guys as we did on base all season and expect to come out on top.

Great synopsis Clint. I agree with you and think it was a strong first year that will now be built upon. Coach has a clear view of what he has and where things need to be improved. Injuries also played a role in at least three of our everyday players.  I look for us to be much better next year and able to build upon this foundation.

It seemed like if we couldn't hit home runs we couldn't generate offense.

Agree, we are able to load bases for sure, we just cant seem to drive those runs in

Too many holes in the lineup and lack of depth on the pitching staff all caught up to us.

Agree, its tough to get production when you have your two biggest batting slumps back to back in the lineup

My biggest gripe of the year was the amount of taking a 1st pitch strike every single ab. It really came to head when it came time to hit quality pitches late in the season and up to yesterday. I understand coach's wanting to make the pitchers work. But if it's a fastball right down the pipe, take a damn swing
