I’d say in this case it worked well. She was the featured player of this tournament.

I’d definitely say it worked for them, national exposure, made it to the championship and had a chance to win it all, love fest for the Cinderella story.

Without Canady they don’t even make a regional.

Texas Tech didn’t pay a dime for Canady . It was donor money.

No way Tech gets anywhere near as far this season without riding Canaday.   Brilliant move imho.   Equally brilliant to I’ll deal on Friday with Canaday for next season, meaning the deal cannot be reviewed or revoked by Deloitte/.  They get another shot to go for it in 2026.

I somewhat agree with you....it's highly unlikely they make a profit but it's not impossible. 

 

Canady is definitely worthy of every penny paid to her by Tech. 2 million over 2 years is far more valuable to Tech's softball program than spending 10-20 million on a stadium or facilities for the sport.

I don’t think it’s sexism to assess profitability. Lots of things go into that. Lots of men’s sports at the collegiate level don’t make a profit.
