Deryl Comer’s hands were like football magnets. Soft lobs and Heat-seeking passes searched for his hands. Deryl could convert a complicated route, bad pass, and challenging catch into a Picasso art form.

From Grok:

Deryl Comer (1966–1968): A tight end, Comer earned All-Southwest Conference honors in 1968. While not a statistical leader like Adams, his recognition as an all-conference player marks him as a notable figure for his era. Specific stats for Comer are less documented, but his role helped solidify the tight end position during a successful period for Texas, including the 1968 season when the Longhorns went 9–1–1.

Regarding Adams (per Grok):

The best Texas Longhorn to wear No. 83 is Mike Adams, a wide receiver from 1992–1996. Adams is third all-time in Texas history with 3,032 receiving yards, trailing only Roy Williams and Jordan Shipley. In 1992, as a freshman, he earned USA TODAY Sports’ Freshman All-American honors, amassing 964 all-purpose yards on 63 touches, including three touchdowns (one receiving, one rushing, one punt return). His career total of 5,822 all-purpose yards ranks third in school history, behind only Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson. Adams was a standout for his era, setting a high standard for Longhorn receivers.

Deryl Comer was such a stud that DKR would play him at DE in goal line and short yardage situations

Sadly, he tore a knee up in the Cotton Bowl vs Tenn and was never the same player.  (The bright side was Ark didn't think enough of his replacement to cover him).  😃

You do know Street threw into bracket coverage on that play.

Actually< I always heard one of our OL crashed into him on that play - his long time roommate in fact.  That doesn't preclude bracket coverage though...

#83 former walk on who Herman gave a scholarship WR Kai Money

Money had the first touchdown by a Longhorn who joined the team as a walk-on since fullback Ahmard Hall caught a touchdown pass against Texas A&M in 2005

Crashed into who, Street? That didn’t happen either.

Peschal? Who could that have happened?

Why didn't Mike Adams play in the NFL? Size? Speed? I don't think he got drafted.

He was drafted in seventh round and then screwed up his knee badly.

It was a combo of speed, size and injury. He had good speed but not elite. And he wasn’t really an NFL-sized player.
