You never read any preseason practice reports? I believed those just like I believe this one. Hopefully I won’t be disappointed this time. But they were equally emphatic.

We also heard good practice reports in 2005 and 2009.

Which of those years did we have a returning All American or Fr All American at all 3 levels of the defense?

I do think the front 7 is as talented of a front 7 as I’ve ever seen at Texas. Questions remain at DB for me but I’m definitely hopeful Taaffe and the coaches get those guys ready to play.

I'm not worried about the DB's. Tons of talent waiting in the wings for their chance to get a spot. McDonald, Guilbeau have experience. Muhammed is that guy. Taaffe is our boy. Now they just need to pair with someone at S. I'm certain Williams will earn his way back, but I think there's a few guys there that could push in (one being McDonald) and the other likely Filsaime. Can't forget a guy like Black at CB.

Most of these guys have some experience and I think we'll be fine. But that's just my burnt orange glasses on take, lol.

I will have more Sunday, but the first text I received back from a source regarding the Saturday practice.

“The defense is going to be unbelievable.”

Texas will be in full pads all of next week.

From what I've been reading, the DBs are happy because they are going to be helped by a better pass rush.  The D-Line is happy because they think they might get a few coverage sacks.  And everyone is saying that the linebackers are always in the right place.

Dat's a long day for opposing offenses.

I’ve watched a few games from last year back and what Baker is saying about playing the DL less but wanting them to be more impactful on their reps is real. Texas let a lot of teams back in the game last year due to a stagnant offense and a defense that ran out of gas. Arizona state is a prime reminder of that. I don’t see that happening on this years defensive line. I think we could genuinely go 8 DTs deep and 6-7 DEs deep.

This is having 2010-15 vibes. 😱

Reading practice reports on what might be the preseason #1, with the preseason Heisman favorite, definitely reminds me of the worst period in the history of Texas football.
