I think the biggest reason Texas won’t be able to sell out to stop Jeremiah is because we didn’t have a Max Klare on the roster.

He’s honestly my biggest x-factor for OSU in this game on offense. I do think Texas using 2-high safeties in this game is designed to both hedge against Smith and also to minimize Klare’s explosiveness.

I believe Texas lost their top 5 tacklers from last season?

I definitely think last years secondary and DL will be better than this years.

I feel optimistic that the secondary will not take a step back from last year, and I actually think the front seven will be better and deeper. Jahdae Barron and Andrew Mukuba were great, heady players, but physically they each had their issues. Mukuba was a bit undersized, and Barron, despite his combine time, is limited in straight-line speed and could be beaten deep.

Derek Williams, Jelani McDonald, and Kobe Black are bigger, more physical, and tough to move. The heart and head of the secondary is Taaffe — as long as he’s on the field, Texas will be in position to make plays.

Incorrect. They return 3 out of the top 5 tacklers.

I think Trey Moore, Brad Spence, Anthony Hill will move freely in between on ball linebacker to off ball linebacker to confuse offenses.

Michael Taaffe, Jelani McDonald, Derek Williams and Jaylon Guilbeau will be equally versatile in the secondary.

I think having so many experienced guys cross trained is going to make the Texas defense far more unpredictable than in years past.

That makes sense. I’ve been listening to the OTF podcast and they said the secondary should be more physical.

But that's just it I'm not talking about Smith. Smith is just 1/11 if the person throwing the ball is confused or the guys up front can't get em blocked up. Its takes a lot to get the ball to a receiver, and when you have recievers like OSU you attack the person throwing the ball.

Texas wants Sayin to be like Quinn in that first half of the  1rst Georgia game… and we wanna play like Georgia defense  that first half …Sayin deer in headlights!

If Day & Ohio State throw caution to the wind like the playoff run and get out to a fast start it could be a long day for Texas.  During the regular season last year the Buckeyes started slow and usually turned it up in the 3rd quarter.  Now we have a new OC, but I think Day most likely personally scripted the first 15 plays for Saturday and will be calling the majority of this game with Hartline telling him what coverages he is seeing from up in the Box.

Ohio State played a garbage Tennessee team and a cold (and frankly overrated) Oregon team that they had already played in that “caution to the wind” run. The Texas vs Ohio State game last year was a good game and I expect this one to be too.

I think Ohio State fans are underestimating the loss of Judkins and Henderson. Y’all are going from having two of the top 5 backs in the country, plus a running QB, to a “functionally athletic” QB and two RBs that will be lucky to be in the top 20.

To be fair to Oregon, because I feel like it is disrespectful to act like that was an easy win, we know Oregon could beat Ohio State last season, something Texas wasn’t able to do.

Just knowing Ohio State’s history, I would still take James Peoples & CJ Donaldson Jr over Texas’ backs. No offense, nobody is worried about running back at Ohio State. I’m not saying they are as good as the two you mentioned, because they are not, but they’ll be good.

I’m not surprised, you are a homer troll. Nick Saban would take Baxter. I value his opinion more

That is based entirely on speculation. Donaldson is solid, but he hasn’t gone over 4.7 YPC since 2022. Texas faced him that year and he did absolutely nothing. Peoples averaged 4.0 YPC last year. They might both be great this year, but there is absolutely no evidence to give me any confidence. Meanwhile, Wisner rushed for 1000+ last year and Saban called Baxter the best back he faced in 2023. You can have yours—I’ll take ours.

Yeah for sure. I wouldn’t expect you to choose Ohio State’s running backs. I trust the Ohio State development and S&C programs. Both of them will be good this year. As will Texas’ backs, this isn’t only one of them can be good.

Are we talking about out of high school, or on 8/30? lol

Obviously out of high school everybody would have picked Baxter. I’m talking about which duo would I choose today, to play on Saturday. I’m taking my chances with the Buckeyes.

I understood what you said and the coverages you mentioned, last January the scheme was to bracket Smith with Safety help over the top.  I am sure OSU will be creative in getting Smith free and the ball in his hands for a minimum 6-8 touches.  Also you are correct in how well will Sayin pick up where the blitz is coming based on the pre snap initial read and what they switch to.

1. We can only hope OSU defense has thrown similar looks at him in fall camp.

2. We have to assume Patricia and crew have studied PK;s  tendencies from different pre snap looks and he can audible out.

3. We have no idea what Sayin will do when he is flushed and forced to run for his life.

What a great opener this will be.

They better study Nansen as well

Again, that is because you are an unabashed Ohio State homer and troll. More power to you

No, it’s because Ohio State has been doing this for a very long time. I’m not taking a back off of a serious knee injury and a dude that averaged what, 4.5 YPC over kids that have bought into the Ohio State culture and S&C program.

Day was asked how Matt Patricia having faced Peyton and Eli Manning in the NFL prepares him for facing Arch.

"That has nothing to do with this game or playing Texas."

I swear, some of the people asking questions at these things lol.

Day: It is great for college football to have this game on opening weekend. I have great respect for Sarkisian and his program and the way he coaches.

He's spot on. Biggest game on opening weekend in a while. The hype is incredible.

Seems like you can read a lot between the lines about how Day thinks this game is going to play out. He expects Texas to come out swinging and Sark will have a strong script. His comments about halftime adjustments being critical and begging the fans to make a difference suggest to me that he thinks Texas might go up in the first half. His comments about surrounding Sayin with talent suggest to me that he isn’t totally sold that Sayin can win them this game. The vibes feel completely different compared with Sark yesterday.

I think you're reading a little too much into that.

As I watch the Michigan/Ohio State game I'm so glad we got Baxter and Clark back. I can't wait until we get in short yardage and goal to go situations where we aren't running zone schemes.

You don't want to run a toss play at the 1 yard line again? Too soon?

Ohio State is motivated as well. Despite being the national champions, Texas is the #1 team coming to their house, and not many people think Ohio State will win.

Um, pretty much most people have Ohio State as the favourite to win? Lol.

Everybody that I have seen in the national media has picked Texas, and most believe the Vegas line is backwards.

Texas won't be able to double all three 5* receivers .  You think you can hold Smith to one catch again 🙂

No, but the coverage wasn't skewed towards Smith like was made out.
