I am not panicked but just disappointed at how disjointed and listless the team played. The expectations are very high. That 2005 team just oozed with confidence from March to January. That is what you want to see here.

Kienholz is fun to watch. Very evenly matched teams. I think it will come down to who has the ball last. How about that Vandy game ending? Wow!

Kc Concepcion was one hell of a player and the Aggies will miss him a lot. Mainly though they were super deep and experienced on the offensive line last year.

Miami has sure clammed up in the second half. Without a few holding calls Wake Forest could’ve won this things. They had all of the momentum in the second half and the Miami offense has done nothing.

Respectfully, you could not be more wrong. CDC implemented this policy of first come first serve for the student section I believe in 2018 and it has completely revolutionized the environment at Texas games. The student section is jam packed, loud, raucous and right next to the opposing bench. It is such a huge departure from what was back in the 2000’s where the students were isolated in corners of the upper deck in about 8 different sections.

Lamberts was good 15-16 years ago. Coconut cream pie and their extra moist brisket was my go to. The Oasis out on Lake Travis is really neat. Food is alright but the view is awesome.

Nick Townsend was a beast blocking. A few missed assignments or late to an assignment in the secondary allowed for Texas State to move the ball a bit. Mascoe missed a tackle on sparks early and then gave too much cushion on third down. Jelani was late with deep help a couple times for Kade Phillips. Arch still too often overlooks the “correct” decision and instead forces it where it doesn’t need to be. A couple times he got away with it but he needs to tighten up. Interior lineman struggled as the game went on to open up lanes inside. Sterling Berkhalter looked great. Wingo almost had an exceptional day but just had a great one. If he finds a way to make that catch in the back of the end zone. Smothers and Brown looked like solid, smart running backs. Coleman and Wingo blocked their butts off downfield. Mosely had a quiet day, holding call and dropped ball on a poor pass from Arch. The middle of the field was wide open for Texas State. - Texas needs to shore up the interior line run locking. Assignments in the secondary. Not over pursuing on the edge and allowing qb rush lane when there is man coverage (Simmons). Arch needs to more consistently make the right decision rather than the “would that be awesome if this worked” decision. They need to get set up faster defensively. They couldn’t get set up a couple times with up tempo and were subject to interior runs. lots to work on but that QB was pretty dang good and so were a couple of those receivers.

Didn’t want to leave Blake out of my shout outs. Love Coffee and Football and Blake does a fantastic job running that. Really seamless production, great guests, fun conversation.

Bobby has a knack for getting the right people together. From what I can tell it is a close knit group. I feel like I grew up with Rod and Jeff having listened to the Blitz for years. Always great analysis/stories/non-sequiturs. For most of my time listening the longhorns weee abysmal and it was just a cycle of hope/commiseration/fear of getting hurt by another disappointing team. Glad to see them back together during a time when Texas doesn’t fall over itself. CJ is obviously a very bright young man that is very comfortable with himself and is doing what he loves. Hank is a great addition as well. How can I not mention Gerry’s manscape ad reads or jabs at the Aggies. There was a scene in the Get Back documentary of the Beatles where John Lennon is going on and on with jokes (really pushing the limit) and just has the other three dying laughing and looking at him with almost a sense of pride like “that’s my mate.” Gerry is the John Lennon of the team keeping things light and fun always. You can just feel the rapport and you can tell Bobby prides himself on identifying and developing talent and building a strong, healthy culture/atmosphere.

I was a little frustrated that on a critical third down Jeremiah Smith shoved Muhammad to get space and nothing was called. That no call and the penalty on Collin Simmons (hands to the face) that gave Ohio State a first down instead of a turnover on downs made a huge difference. Without them Ohio State may not have scored at all. The team is still young and that showed with some inconsistency. Arch, Collin Simmons, Anthony Hill, Ryan Wingo and Brandon Baker all had forgettable games. Lets hope they can keep their chins up and continue to improve.

Collin Simmons takes himself out of the play too often and was a liability when they ran toward him.

If Arch hits Wingo on that drag route just once then that changes the game. Even though Arch had a tough day, he did not give up. He kept punching and made some great throws toward the end. Bad throws, penalties and uninspired red zone play were killer. The defense is great. The offensive line has room to improve but overall played well. Graceson Littleton was awesome. Ced Baxter looked good. Endries played well.

I think Trey Moore, Brad Spence, Anthony Hill will move freely in between on ball linebacker to off ball linebacker to confuse offenses. Michael Taaffe, Jelani McDonald, Derek Williams and Jaylon Guilbeau will be equally versatile in the secondary. I think having so many experienced guys cross trained is going to make the Texas defense far more unpredictable than in years past.

I feel optimistic that the secondary will not take a step back from last year, and I actually think the front seven will be better and deeper. Jahdae Barron and Andrew Mukuba were great, heady players, but physically they each had their issues. Mukuba was a bit undersized, and Barron, despite his combine time, is limited in straight-line speed and could be beaten deep. Derek Williams, Jelani McDonald, and Kobe Black are bigger, more physical, and tough to move. The heart and head of the secondary is Taaffe — as long as he’s on the field, Texas will be in position to make plays.

The reason Texas’ defense could tilt the odds in their favor is Sark’s staff and their ability to develop talent. Look at the track record: T’Vondre Sweat, Alfred Collins, and Vernon Broughton were afterthoughts when Sark arrived. Byron Murphy was a 3-star recruit. That group produced an Outland Trophy winner, two first-team All-Americans, a second-team All-American, and four players drafted in the first four rounds. Barryn Sorrell, a 3-star LSU pass-over, became a 4th-round pick. Michael Taafe went from walk-on to All-American. Gunnar Helm, a 3-star from the last Herman class, had arguably the best season ever by a Longhorn tight end and is now making plays with the Titans. Christian Jones, once “damaged goods,” turned into an NFL player. David Gbenda also reached the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Torre Becton, the strength coach, deserves credit too. He’s building these players into physically dominant athletes, maximizing size, speed, and power — especially in the front seven, where length and strength are already elite. Sark isn’t just developing 3-star holdovers. He’s now working with top-tier recruits from four consecutive top-5 classes. Texas and Ohio State are essentially equal on paper, and I expect the same rapid jumps from these players that we’ve seen in the past. These guys are focused, hungry, and eager to prove something. With this staff’s development edge, the sky is the limit for Texas’ defense.
