Moderators CJ Vogel Posted Sunday at 06:19 PM Moderators Posted Sunday at 06:19 PM A look at the Texas snap counts vs. Ohio State on Saturday. *** Defense Out of 59 defensive snaps. 59 – Jelani McDonald, Michael Taaffe 55 – Malik Muhammad 54 – Anthony Hill Jr. 45 – Jaylon Guilbeau 39 – Liona Lefau 37 – Ethan Burke, Hero Kanu, Trey Moore 35 – Colin Simmons 30 – Maraad Watson 26 – Alex January 24 – Cole Brevard 21 – Ty'Anthony Smith 19 – Travis Shaw, Graceson Littleton 16 – Kobe Black 12 – Derek Williams Jr. 7 – Lance Jackson 6 – Zina Umeozulu 5 – Brad Spence 4 – Colton Vasek 3 – Xavier Filsiame, Justus Terry Texas only deployed 24 players on the defensive side of the ball in the season opener, right where I expected them to be. I did not expect to see 37 snaps from Hero Kanu, leading the way for the interior defensive linemen. 19 snaps for Graceson Littleton is a number that rivals Colin Simmons vs. Michigan and Anthony Hill vs. Alabama, a great sign for the frosh. *** Offense Out of 67 offensive snaps. 67 – Ryan Wingo, Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby, Arch Manning, DJ Campbell, Cole Hutson 65 – Parker Livingstone 60 – Jack Endries 56 – Connor Stroh 51 – DeAndre Moore 41 – Quintrevion Wisner 26 – CJ Baxter 19 – Spencer Shannon 11 – Neto Umeozulu 3 – Jordan Washington 2 – Daylan McCutcheon 1 – Nick Townsend Four tight ends saw time on the field. Only two running backs were on the field for the offense. With how often Texas was under center, I was surprised to not see any 2-back looks from Sarkisian. 8 Quote

Hornmatic Posted Sunday at 06:25 PM Posted Sunday at 06:25 PM I didn’t notice, where did Trey Moore line up and play mostly? Quote
Hornmatic Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM And thanks for doing these every week. I have been waiting since the game ended to see this breakdown. 👍 1 Quote

Mostly at EDGE, Texas deployed a lot of Bear fronts against Ohio State early on after it was clear they were going to ground and pound. 27 EDGE snaps 10 BOX snaps 2 Quote

This surprised me as well. If I recall, the pony package created a lot of explosive plays last year. Quote

I'm sure they will get plenty of carries the next 3 weeks. 1 Quote
Jbro52 Posted Sunday at 06:47 PM Posted Sunday at 06:47 PM Vasek i thought would get more snaps and shocked at Moore not being in in 12 personnel good stuff CJ Quote

I’m sure we would’ve seen one of the younger RBs if CJ wasn’t 100% but it’s great news that he played as much as he did Quote
Bunk Moreland Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago @CJ Vogel would you expect Vasek and Spence to take more snaps when Texas isn’t going big to stop the run like they did against OSU? I was surprised to see those guys with so few snaps. Second question is, were you surprised to see Lance Jackson get more snaps than either of those two? And does that mean he’s taking someone’s job on 2nd team? Quote

And does that mean he’s taking someone’s job on 2nd team? Definitely. Really, my biggest takeaway from that is the trust the staff had in Zina Umeozulu to play the run as often as he did. He was one of the edge rushers when Texas went big on the goal. And no, not really too surprised by Jackson. He is a total stud and plays the run better than the other two. Vasek will see 25 snaps this weekend against a team that throws the ball 45 times. 1 Quote
Bunk Moreland Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The surprising thing to me is why Brad Spence transferred from Arkansas just to get 5 snaps. Dude could have had a monster year at Arkansas and headed to the league. Hope we have a good plan for utilizing him appropriately this year. Quote
