Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted 3 hours ago Moderators Posted 3 hours ago This where we are headed in college sports, currently. At least in basketball. See if any baseball minor leaguers with eligibility on their NCAA clock try and make the move to college for NIL cash. Thierry Darlan eligible this season for Santa Clara. Averaged 11 points and six rebounds in the G-league. Santa Clara now has a 18-20 and 10-11 guy in college this season. A 6-7.5 guard doing it. https://frontofficesports.com/santa-clara-thierry-darlan-g-league/ Louisville signed G-league PG London Johnson He played 30 games in the G-league, a two year contract worth 1.1 million https://www.si.com/college/louisville/football/nba-g-league-guard-commits 4 2 Quote
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted 3 hours ago Author Moderators Posted 3 hours ago With all the high number of international players looking to come to college hoops to cash in on NIL contracts better than their pro deals, the NCAA is now ruling eligibility by what would be a NCAA clock vs. having been paid to play professional sports. College athletics is now pro sports due to NIL, so no stopping it in the future IMO. 3 3 Quote

DanielOnorato Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) What an absolute mess. With the amount of flame outs in the NBA this is gonna be a headache. Guys like Dariq Whitehead, a top HS product 1 and done at Duke late first round pick who was just cut might be more valuable to a college team than Euro league. Crazy. HornsRUs Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This is only because the Ignite is no longer a G-League team, correct? Quote

Don't believe so. It's because the NCAA is allowing players from overseas pro leagues who were paid professionals to be eligible for NCAA basketball. 1 2 Quote

Yeah I don’t really see the difference here between G League player and overseas pro when in both cases a player doesn’t declare for the draft and/or isn’t drafted into the league. Not sure how this translates to a player declaring for the NFL, getting drafted, and then trying to go back to school. There are precedent rules in place to prevent this from happening but I guess the NCAA can truly lose any case at this point Quote
Andrew Scott Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago @Gerry Hamiltonhow you feeling on the twin bigs that are announcing tomorrow? Quote

But I could see a scenario where they ultimately lose in court in a few years IMO, and an NFL player will end up being able to go play in "college" unless the NFL and NCAA/colleges get together relatively quickly and solidify the future. I guess where I come out is college sports is no longer amateur. It's pro sports now. If they are both professional, not sure a court case couldn't be won eventually - even if drafted. 1 Quote

Texas fan in Georgia Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I mean it’s heading to where if somebody plays two years of college and then decide to declare but they aren’t drafted they’ll have the option to come back for 3 years. Was there ever an update on the 5 years to play ? Also we already have 28 year old QBs Quote

That would have put Texas at four high school players. I remember you saying two or three. Obviously if another five star wants to come then I am sure they would add a fourth. Quote
Jordan91 Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago So players can now announce they are going pro, but wait, I could be back. I can’t keep count anymore. 1 Quote
MarkInAustin Posted 21 minutes ago Posted 21 minutes ago And collective bargaining, which was always the ultimate position for the athletes, must follow closely. Aside from a time eligibility rule it can remain professional yet college sports if the athletes are required to attend and pass classes. It only becomes a joke if like at UNC Chapel Hill not so long ago classes were completely optional. We have been there before. Paying guys who are actually matriculating is OK in my eyes. They are still student athletes. Quote
